I once fished all night until daybreak. It was a experience
I will never forget. You feel like you are fishing blindfolded but your other senses kick up a notch. My biggest trill was a six lb largemouth caught on a Senko worm. I released it. He deserved it.

Yep just finished lubing and cleaning a #308. Historically one of the best reel ever made. From France.

Interesting replies from everyone. I have made over a dozen trips and have faced pure agony and frustrations to “WOW! that was fast”. IMO you need to check with the foreign country’s TSA website and not the airlines. The airlines main concern is with weight and size of your check-in bags. TSA will screen and X-ray it afterward.
The airlines have nothing to do with the contents in your carry-on. TSA will screen and X-ray your bag as you go thru security. The TSA inspectors will makes the final call not the airline. Are the rules and regulations uniform in each country? I doubted that from experience.
I agree with the previous answers. You shouldn’t have any trouble but have a backup plan ready.

What airport in Mexico did you depart from?

Right after 9/11 security really tighten up at the airport. Fishing line was labeled as a possible weapon. Over the years that ruling is becoming less enforced.
That said, I carry several fishing reels loaded with braided line and a few spare spools to Mexico without any hassle from Homeland Security.
DO NOT bring pliers, knives, hooks, any sharp object of any kind. They will find it and confiscate it. Believe me it has happened to me at the airport.
Since the braided line will be in your carry on luggage you need to check with homeland security. They will be the one making the decisions.

I'm with you Skbrownie on the braided line. I read articles that some brands here in the USA have a wax coating making it smooth. I guess they don't apply that coating over there.😱 But here is something that I found interesting. Oversea manufacturers make two type braided line, 4 strands and 8 strands and it doesn't matter what the breaking strength is, both lines will have nearly the same diameter. The 8 strands braided line cost a lot more naturally...So now that you know this fact you can imagine all the new speculations from everyone about the quality of braided line.😂

I wonder who makes Shimano, Daiwa, Bass Pro reels etc. and how can they charge the price they do?
Everybody talk about Kast King but my search results shows that there are many manufacturers oversea that make reels at a affordable price. They even expanded into the saltwater sector. You can go crazy and spend hours doing a side by side comparison with all the reels.
A few years ago I had the chance to tour China and Hong Kong. I was surprised to learn that sportfishing is a huge pastime there. This might explain the revolution we are seeing. To complete for the dollar you have to improve your product and still make it affordable for the local residents. We are fortunate to be able to take advantage of this situation. All I am saying is the low price doesn't necessarily reflect on the quality of the reel.

I have two bait casting reels from China and they're very good. I had my doubts at first. You know the saying, you get what you paid for. But was I surprised. Does everything I expect from a reel. Smooth
casting and decent drag function. Fourteen ball bearings. Fits in my hand nicely.
I brought them though "Alibaba", Asian version of Amazon but even cheaper since there is no middleman.
My grandkids uses these with no problem. Don't worry your son is young. He will upgrade when the time comes.

Hi Ron
The boat was pre-wired for 6 gauge wire so I'm good to go.
I understand what you are telling me about Eliminating the 12v circuit. I find that I am actually using less power when in 24v mode bc I’m not constantly stepping on the switch.

Thanks guys for your input.
Charlie and Justright, let me tell you #1 and 2 crossed my mind and my first thought was that would be a headache after each outing. So to answer my own question getting a dual battery charger is the easiest and safest solution.
Much oblige 👌

I have just installed a 12/24 volt Motor guide trolling motor. What is the easiest procedure to take to charge the two batteries using a regular battery charger?

Thanks for the fish story. It happens to all of us at one time. But 1 1/2 hours to remove line from the prop? The braid must have been badly wrapped around the shaft.
