I just got a used G3 bass boat. I am wondering how far under the surface do you place your trolling motor for best performance? Right now it is set to the extreme but I don't want to hit anything if I can help it and want to raise it.
Thanks
Typically, you want it deep enough to not put the propwash against any part of the Hull for efficiency purposes; but you don’t want the control head being in the way of casting or retrieving. These two aspects leave you generally a small margin of up or down height. One other aspect to consider is when the motor is full extended downward, there gets to be more torque on your mounting hardware, especially when hitting high gear sideways. This torque can be better managed using a higher motor position within reason. Since it’s not a big deal to change, just try a couple different heights. You’ll quickly find what works to your satisfaction. And...welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the suggestion. Real interesting reading topics :)
Hey cap, note to self. Have remote ready and near bye. Neighbor spent a 1 1/2 hours repairing his first time use yesterday. Fish came at the boat, braid wrapped around prop, cut line and lost the fish. Bad enough to spend quality fishing time repairing but to lose the fish. That's an Ouch.

Thanks for the fish story. It happens to all of us at one time. But 1 1/2 hours to remove line from the prop? The braid must have been badly wrapped around the shaft.
Cap, this is a neighbor that has all the answers. Does that tell you how it must have gone. Granted I wasn't there, but knowing what I have seen just shake my head.
