I was looking at an ad for fishing reels thinking about my son liking left-handed reels and ended up buying 3 instead of one. They were on sale for a great price so I can't throw stones at ya brother. Happy hooking. hahaha

If you plan to use it at different lakes/ponds and know their regulations it might help make your decision. They have some electric/battery that are as fast or faster than a small gas outboard. Would not have to carry and mix when you would already have a designated battery(s). Look at price and up keep of each to help in your decision.

Try to fish with you face toward the sun so you don't cast a shadow but if you have to try to make your shadow as small as possible. The best time to go fishing is when you get to go.

Keep using new baits or a new way to present that bait. Go back to baits you used years back and see if it works any better than they were. Keep doing rotations.

How serious are you about tournament fishing? Single or buddy tournaments, (rods, reels, tackle) that you already have (need in the future)How old are you and how physically healthy are you? Do you have the $$$$ to actually fish tournaments? A lot of questions right? I fished local weekend tournaments (1 a month) then (1 every weekend)then fished a trail along with additional tournaments and it gets expensive. Wear and tear on the vehicle, gas $$ for tow and $$ or boat. Are you planning to do any fishing trips? Camping and cooking, hotel and eating out. Not trying to rain on your parade just take the time and plan ahead while thinking it through. write it all down on paper so you can see what is happening. You can't be successful if you're worried about money. I got lucky and lucked upon a sponsor that understood I wouldn't bring home money each tournament. Just trying to save you from burn out and loss of love for fishing because it happened to me and other people also.Didn't fish for 14 yrs. but now I enjoy pleasure fishing. Hope you have a great time. I did until it became a job.

Trilene 12 Lb. mono XL (extra limp hahaha) Not as stiff so it doesn't have a lot of memory in the line. Then you can start expanding out to different types and strengths. 12 Lb. allows you to fish for most anything.

You need to meet some people that fish in your city, town, etc, and get to know them. I did that when I got my first job teaching music in Autauga County in Alabama. Learned a tremendous amount from this person. Had never used artificial baits until my friend Frank took me on the Alabama River where he was fishing a plastic worn and I was using wigglers. Frank rigged my rod up with a bullet weight and hook. Showed me how to put the worm on correctly and away I went. Made a cast and was doing what he said to do and then I got a thump thump and looked at Frank, he started hollering set the hook and I did. Got my but kicked by a big old Bama Spotted Bass and have been hooked since Can't get enough. Found another friend that fished and knew a little so Jim and I learned together. We read every article we could get our hands on and sit down and talked about what we read from line to hooks, knots, spooling line on spinning and baitcasting. We lost Jim about 12 yrs. back to cancer. I still stay in touch with Frank but will never forget the trips we all took to the different lakes with our bass clubs, camping trips with just Jim and myself staying at Franks place up at Lake Martin. I take all kinds of people fishing now and it's fun but it will never be like it was with Frank and Jim. 40 years of doing something with someone make friendships that will live forever. Sorry that this turned in to a book but you brought out some fond memories that I enjoy a lot.

Check for state lakes. In Alabama we state lakes that limit the boast to electric motors, Trolling motors, but there area around 1/2 to 3/4 and some all of the way around for bank fishing and most have fishing piers with both shallow and deeper water access. Can probably find it with a search for Texas State Public lakes. Most if not all have a small store where you can find fishing accessories, state & lake license, snacks, some have boat rentals, etc. They have pics. of different species and are usually run by retired personnel that are super nice people. You are going to need to take some help with for that age boys. I know I would. I don't take my 4 yr. old by myself and I'm 64 and get around pretty good for being disabled. Just saying it would be better than have something happen.

Had one for several years and really enjoyed it. Actually caught more and bigger fish out of it than my bass boat. It can go in very shallow water where other boats can't go but I also took it on the Alabama River and had no problems. I could stand up in mine and pee. Can't do that in a lot of other small boats. Hauled it in the back of my truck and also on a small utility trailer. I even put a Hummingbird LCD on it. Used it in a lot of state lakes and ponds. Keep your mind open and you will be happy with it.

The purpose of catch and release is to keep the numbers of fish up to hopefully replenish the ones lost. The best concept is to keep the smaller fish for eating and release the larger fish due to genetics. All fish are not created equal. The belief is that a larger bass has the genetics to produce fry that will grow to be big fish. The train of thought is if it is a large fish then it's fry will grow to trophy size. The smaller fish also taste better.
