I eat 'em, not sure who would be against it, they are everywhere and they taste good. It's like eating squirrels.

Because crappie exist, no point in eating bass.

I guess I’m just picky, eating squirrels isn’t on the top of my list either.

It's hard to say. They possess a celebrity status in the fishing community, being the most fished fish in the pro-leagues; so that plays a part. It's said that they aren't a good eating fish, but I tend to ignore any comment regarding the edibility of a game animal (short of disease, poison, or parasite) until I try it.

I have eaten them and they aren’t bad. I’ll still keep the odd one if it’s bleeding pretty bad and I don’t think it’ll make it. But in my area there’s perch, walleye, crappie, various trout, all of which I much prefer over bass. Plus the limits allow you to keep more of those species than bass anyways. So if I’m bass fishing its either a tournament or just fun fishing. Can fill the freezer with other, tastier fish imo.

The purpose of catch and release is to keep the numbers of fish up to hopefully replenish the ones lost. The best concept is to keep the smaller fish for eating and release the larger fish due to genetics. All fish are not created equal. The belief is that a larger bass has the genetics to produce fry that will grow to be big fish. The train of thought is if it is a large fish then it's fry will grow to trophy size. The smaller fish also taste better.
