I fish out of gulf harbors new port Richey we had been doing good on them but lately a lot of undersize fish 13 13 1/2 one out of 10 is a keeper hoping it gets better when water warms a little 50 ft of water live shrimp

Got mine at The Square Grouper
Right now we there’s a lot of throwbacks 1 keeper to every 10 hogs we did much better last summer and fall we would get 7 to 14 keepers for 4 people fishing most every trip, 50 ft of water live shrimp there will be grunts you have to fish thru them to get the hogs if the shrimp are big use half they will pick it off the hook also I use a 2/0 hook fun to catch and great eating
I live in New Port Richey and fish the gulf, if your fishing grouper you want a reel that has substantial drag you hook a decent grouper he will take you into the rocks or coral and that’s it you’ll loose him use minimum 65 lb braid , 80 fluorocarbon leader and lock the drag down all the way, and hold on

Sounds good. Wish i was near you.
Blackened to me is the best of all
What we use to do was to add stinger hooks get your second hook with a bigger eye so that the main hooks barb passes thru it then add a small piece of plastic tubing over the eye of the second hoo then put the barb of the main hoo thru it and the hook will stay straight in line with main hook you can add any amount of hooks

Spot on ...$100 tip
20 percent is the correct amount your above that so that’s good retired mate they work hard sometimes they can’t get them fish to chew not often but it does happen they still work even harder on days like that
I own 10 avet reels and rods 6 sx raptors 2 sxj raptors and two 5.3 what I did was look at how much line and lb test you want to use and maximize drag setting and match the reels to your requirements the raptor is a favorite of mine from grouper fishing to hog fishing they work great for me
Take that kayak and paddle into the backwater shallows throw a shrimp up under the mangroves your going to be very surprised what comes out of there red fish or snook , trout . I don’t fish the shallow water I fish all off shore but my friends do usually always plenty of action in the canals and backwater around new port Richey, gulf harbors .
If you use out riggers you can have two points of attachment put a bird deep and a bar 1/2 way up the rigger then ballyhooed behind the bar about a wake or two next a green machine next a hex head in tight on a flat line clip same on the opposite side that’s a good 8 rod spread
I’m willing to bet that there isn’t as much bait for them simple find the bait the fish won’t be far behind that goes for most any type not just blues and bass
Retired mate on 6 man charter boat 20 % of the trip is the correct amount
Been like that on the gulf side for a while now
It’s a grunt if it was right side up it would be easy to identify just the right size for gag grouper bait
