OK, is this dedication or what!

This Saturday I will hop into my car (early 5:30am) and begin the first of three driving legs to go fishing with my Best Friend. Here's where the dedication comes in. Leg one of my trip will take me from home (San Diego) to Grand Junction, CO 836 miles, approximately 12 hours, plus various stops for gas, bathroom & rolled tacos whatever comes first.

I'll do an overnight at the lovely 5-Star Econo Lodge in Grand Junction. Early Sunday morning (6:00am) I start leg two, Grand Junction, CO to Ft Collins, CO. 305 miles, approximately 5 hours, plus....well you know by now, roll tacos, etc., etc. I arrive in Ft Collins around 1:00pm. This is where my Best Friend enters the picture. He's spent 6 hours or so driving from Salinas, KS. We spend the night at his nephew's home catching up on the year past...lots to talk about considering all that's gone on this past year.

Bright & early (not too early) we leave Ft Collins heading for Steamboat Lake, CO., about a 4 hour drive. Now you've got two old guys (75) swapping fishing lies, laughing & scratching and having a good time...oh yes, more rolled tacos somewhere along the way. This is an annual fishing trip that we two old buzzards have done once a year for the last 10+ years...It's tradition!

Covid-19 is pushing us into a leap of faith, but at our age and given the history of things, we're not too concerned and will take all the needed precautions. We always practiced Social Distancing anyway when we fish, placing our portable chairs about 6 feet apart placing the appropriate cooler between us. It's all good!

Steamboat Lake, CO is one of the prettiest lakes on earth and in 10+ years we've never not caught trout...usually our limits in a couple of hours. We've rented a little cabin near the lake and will spend 5 days drowning Power bait & reelin' em in! Old traditions need to be maintained!

Old fishermen never die, they just switch poles!

What is this little critter, wonder what kind of fish would eat it , do people eat them. Where can you find some. What do you look for to find them. What do you use to catch them. How many names do they have.

It's a sand flea. They bury themselves in the sand, make great bait for a variety of saltwater fish. They're also good battered and fried. Mike

I just saw this on my FaceBook feed. Perhaps you have already seen it, but I thought many of you would like to see it. This is stuff of day dreams! The posting said it came in just under 4 lbs.

Funny funny, I'm from the mid-west,would really like to know what a dog fish is? No jokes please. I'm really trying to learn. Some of us (ok me) aren't that smart.

On the Chesapeake Bay we call them sand sharks. They are a fairly small shark who are usually a nuisance. They get up to three or feet long, have a mouth full of many but small and sharp teeth. Bait stealers when you don't hook them. Mike

I went over to the ocean side of the eastern shore of Virginia yesterday looking for flounder. No flounder but the skates kept me busy all day. Caught 16 of them and nothing else. i tried to go out into the ocean but it was a little too rough for my flat bottom skiff. I launched out of Wachapreague. Beautiful day. Saw a seal near the mouth of the inlet. Fairly rare sight in this area.

Brian, I'm in Chesapeake also. I think it's just a little too early as the water hasn't warmed yet. I'm so danged anxious to get after the flatties myself. I think you'll see them at Ruddi or Lynnhaven and maybe even LittleCreek before Wachapreague although later it's the hot spot. Not bad for tarpon either. Mike

Hey RJS, going to try out my underwater camera next time out. Water depth is 12 to 18 ft and really clear. Crappie keep disappearing after catching 1 so need to find where they're going to.

Take a balloon with you. When you catch the first crappie hook it through the back attached to the balloon on fishing line and release it. It will take you right to the school. Mike

Friends stick together
til the end
they are like a straight line
that will not bend
(Emily Thurston)

Friendship is one of life's greatest treasures

friends are there to make you laugh when you are down

I know that we are only friends via the internet
but you are each very important to this old man as his long life winds down
thank you each and every one for the laughs and the stories that go to my heart

here is a poem by Margery Wang(hope you like it)

I remember the day we met
we were too shy to say much at all
it's funny to think back to that time
because now we are having a ball

they say true friendship is rare
an adage I believe to be true
friendship is something I cherish
I am so lucky to have you

our bond is special
unique in it's own way
something irreplaceable
it's more and more each day

we've been through a lot together
in so little time we've shared
i won't forget the moments
that you've shown how much you cared

friends are forever
especially the bond we possess
I love your fun filled personalities
you never fail to impress

the world could use more people like you
it would be a better place
I hold dear everything about you
you're someone I could never replace

you are always there for me
when my spirits need a lift
I cant thank you enough
you are truly an extraordinary gift

you are everything to me and more
I cant express that enough
life is a treacherous journey
and without you it would be more tough

our story will continue to grow
with every passing day
because with you by my side
everything will be okay

you are dear to me
I hold you in my heart to the end
I will always be there for you
and you will always be my friend

BTW

slipped out between the showers yesterday for about two hours
got both on centipedes

not very big,but fun
I am honored to share my life with most of the FSe... (show quote)

God bless you and hold you close. Thanks for all of the good times you've provided. Mike

My wife may well be a Saint, Mike, but the reference was to Mrs. BB being one for putting up with the ol' feller for 70+ years. And, it goes without saying (but I will) that BB's IOU debt to me & others is legendary.

Legendary is a fact and I'm on the same page now it's just the way it read to me. Mike

Did you mean Mrs. BF or is something going on we probably shouldn't know about? It wouldn't have anything to do with IOUs would it? Mike

If gas is mixed, and you do not run carb dry on the last use of the season, then you'll probably have to rebuild carbs. I have never had to rebuild my carbs, IF I REMEMBER to run carb dry before loading my boat for home. Same goes for other seasonal use gas engines, especially since theres a percentage of alcohol added to gasoline now. ( snow blowers, weed wackers, chain saws, lawn mowers.)

I run the gas out every time I'm finished with the tool, that way I don't need to worry whether I put Stabil in the gas or not, which I try to do. That goes for two and four stroke motors. Mike
