Miles and miles and miles to go.............
OK, is this dedication or what!
This Saturday I will hop into my car (early 5:30am) and begin the first of three driving legs to go fishing with my Best Friend. Here's where the dedication comes in. Leg one of my trip will take me from home (San Diego) to Grand Junction, CO 836 miles, approximately 12 hours, plus various stops for gas, bathroom & rolled tacos whatever comes first.
I'll do an overnight at the lovely 5-Star Econo Lodge in Grand Junction. Early Sunday morning (6:00am) I start leg two, Grand Junction, CO to Ft Collins, CO. 305 miles, approximately 5 hours, plus....well you know by now, roll tacos, etc., etc. I arrive in Ft Collins around 1:00pm. This is where my Best Friend enters the picture. He's spent 6 hours or so driving from Salinas, KS. We spend the night at his nephew's home catching up on the year past...lots to talk about considering all that's gone on this past year.
Bright & early (not too early) we leave Ft Collins heading for Steamboat Lake, CO., about a 4 hour drive. Now you've got two old guys (75) swapping fishing lies, laughing & scratching and having a good time...oh yes, more rolled tacos somewhere along the way. This is an annual fishing trip that we two old buzzards have done once a year for the last 10+ years...It's tradition!
Covid-19 is pushing us into a leap of faith, but at our age and given the history of things, we're not too concerned and will take all the needed precautions. We always practiced Social Distancing anyway when we fish, placing our portable chairs about 6 feet apart placing the appropriate cooler between us. It's all good!
Steamboat Lake, CO is one of the prettiest lakes on earth and in 10+ years we've never not caught trout...usually our limits in a couple of hours. We've rented a little cabin near the lake and will spend 5 days drowning Power bait & reelin' em in! Old traditions need to be maintained!
Old fishermen never die, they just switch poles!
Great this is life live to do the things we love and quality friendship that last forever

Have a safe trip Georgio. God speed. Mike
I heard the smell attracts fish....maybe that's mosquitos?
Mr. Rogers couldn't have expressed it better.
Thanks for the nice thought!
Great story have a safe trip and catch one for me.
Thanks Mike!....We'll give it our Best Shot!
Hope to have lots of pictures to share after June 23rd.
Enjoyed your trip description. I too am gettin ready for a 2200 mile trip from Orange County to Northern Minnesota. I will have my 15 yr old granddaughter with me, (excellent fishing partner) so we are sight seeing along the way, but I will be spending minimum of 2 months fishing Minnesota waters.
Hey 44,u have a safe trip & send us some pics!! would love to see the lake!

Stay safe out there - the crazies are back on the road. Nearly got wiped out twice yesterday (in 50 miles) as people were gawking on their phones and drifted into my lane.
Well, Hoss; if there was such a thing as the most determined fisherman award, I would submit your name for that honor! Just Saying RJS
Oh lucky man you are!
Having a granddaughter as a fishing partner is Fantastic!...tell the truth, who's the better at catching fish? If you say her, then I would only suspect that you taught her well!
Two months fishing in Minnesota? Are you going to leave any fish for the rest of us? Well my friend, I wish you & your granddaughter the Best fishing holiday ever!
Be safe and enjoy the adventure of a lifetime!
Great advice..... I was really hoping to miss most of the Crazies!
I really don't know what to expect now that people are venturing out. I've fished this lake on July 4th in the past and there was still plenty of shore room to make it seem like a Pandemic has been here all along....closest person was at least 100 yds. down the bank.
No matter what the situation it's just going to be a great spending time with my friend....fishing is a Bonus!
RJ,
I really appreciate that! By the way, you have great taste in hats. You can check mine out in my picture. That was forty something years... I still have it! Hat's are like fishin' poles, you get good one, you hang on to it!
Hope to share my adventures with you when we get back!
