Hoss: don’t get me started on hats! I have maybe 1200 friends on Facebook and guess what the common thread is? Hats, now not just any ole gimme cap! I have been shopping and hankering to get a new one but cannot decide just exact style. Am leaning on a Stetson like worn in the 1880 and 90’s as a style. I also don’t want anything black or a Montana peak. I’m a native Texan so it has to reflect that and who I am. I’m sure you understand since you comment on my current hat! Just Sayin...RJS

Sounds like a really good trip. Both trips by both groups sound good.

She's really gotten good. When I take someone new in the boat, I just drive the boat and let her instruct the new person. It's really fun to watch.

OK, is this dedication or what!

This Saturday I will hop into my car (early 5:30am) and begin the first of three driving legs to go fishing with my Best Friend. Here's where the dedication comes in. Leg one of my trip will take me from home (San Diego) to Grand Junction, CO 836 miles, approximately 12 hours, plus various stops for gas, bathroom & rolled tacos whatever comes first.

I'll do an overnight at the lovely 5-Star Econo Lodge in Grand Junction. Early Sunday morning (6:00am) I start leg two, Grand Junction, CO to Ft Collins, CO. 305 miles, approximately 5 hours, plus....well you know by now, roll tacos, etc., etc. I arrive in Ft Collins around 1:00pm. This is where my Best Friend enters the picture. He's spent 6 hours or so driving from Salinas, KS. We spend the night at his nephew's home catching up on the year past...lots to talk about considering all that's gone on this past year.

Bright & early (not too early) we leave Ft Collins heading for Steamboat Lake, CO., about a 4 hour drive. Now you've got two old guys (75) swapping fishing lies, laughing & scratching and having a good time...oh yes, more rolled tacos somewhere along the way. This is an annual fishing trip that we two old buzzards have done once a year for the last 10+ years...It's tradition!

Covid-19 is pushing us into a leap of faith, but at our age and given the history of things, we're not too concerned and will take all the needed precautions. We always practiced Social Distancing anyway when we fish, placing our portable chairs about 6 feet apart placing the appropriate cooler between us. It's all good!

Steamboat Lake, CO is one of the prettiest lakes on earth and in 10+ years we've never not caught trout...usually our limits in a couple of hours. We've rented a little cabin near the lake and will spend 5 days drowning Power bait & reelin' em in! Old traditions need to be maintained!

Old fishermen never die, they just switch poles!

Enjoyed your trip description. I too am gettin ready for a 2200 mile trip from Orange County to Northern Minnesota. I will have my 15 yr old granddaughter with me, (excellent fishing partner) so we are sight seeing along the way, but I will be spending minimum of 2 months fishing Minnesota waters.
And that sir, is one of my Bucket List items....... and to do it with a granddaughter would be just priceless!
