I prefer to buy full combos but I have a few rods that are different colors and brands than the reel. But I do get kinda picky on one thing.... I do like to have matching baitcasters and Spinner combos. For some reason they just look sexy sitting next to each other when you have matching baitcasters and Spinner combos.

Last year fishing for cats on the Mississippi river I pulled up a g.loomis asquith 1090 fly rod and reel combo. Looked up the rod, it's valued at $1700. Sold the combo for $1200 after I seen that.

Now that's a great catch!

Last weekend my wife and I took out the kayaks to a lake just to get out. Of course I wasn't going to waste an opportunity to fish so I grabbed a couple of rods and away we went. After a day of not catching anything we decided to call it and head for home. I decided to cast " one more time" and ended up pulling out am entire rod and reel combo. It must have been dropped a short time ago because the reel looks brand new ( Lew's spinner) and the rod is in great shape. Come to find out the reel is valued at $60 but the rod is a St Croix avid series 6'6 fast action retailing for $150! That got me thinking, what is the craziest thing you have caught while fishing that wasn't a fish?

Egg your right, 65 felt amazing! But hang in there brother, your weather will change here soon and then you will be wishing 65 will be cool enough instead of warm enough! I also feel that the fish will start biting so well you will limit very shortly after you go fishing. I know this because with all that's going on in the world good people like everyone here like yourself deserve that to happen.

Could not have asked for a better way to kick off spring. The sun was shining and the temperature was 65 degrees. Even if I didn't catch any fish my wife and I still had a blast taking the kayaks out a practicing our social distancing.

Well it just so happens brother that I have both of them and use them on a regular basis. I am a huge fan of Lew's and have several of their baitcasters as well as matching spinners. But the first baitcaster I bought last year was the Abu Garcia black max. I also have an extra black max reel that I keep as a back up in case something happens to mine and thankfully nothing has yet. Even though it's only been a year I have used it a bunch of times and still continue to use it to this day. So really you can't go wrong with either of those choices. But the bonus for the Lew's is if you buy it you can send a picture of your proof of purchase from a store and get a free hoodie or pair of shorts.all you ha e to do is cover the shipping. Good luck on your decision and tight lines.

I have some googan baits and use the soft plastics from time to time but they are all stuff that my wife bought for me. I watched a video on YouTube a while back where a guy did a full comparison between 6th sence lures ( which I use regularly and a big fan of) and googan lures and they were almost identical. Some of them were identical even is size, weight, number of balls in rattling lures, everything accept the coloring. The biggest thing about that is 6th sence came out years before googan did so there is speculation of them stealing the design of 6th sence lures and passing it as their own. So I use the soft plastics from time to time while I have them but I will not spend my money on the lures. But that's just my opinion.

Ron I live about and hour from the OH-MI border and there are always a major amount of walleye this time of year there in lake Erie. Not sure if this is helpful to you but if it is you may want to check it out. Fast reels and tight line brother!

Your fine Lol...I often forget about weather differences in other states as well. O did wear my cowboy boots because I only have two pair of tennis shoes and one of them are extremely thin cloth and the other pair are all white. I have several pair of boots so I just naturally grabbed what I have that I didn't mind getting dirty. But I realized very quickly that they were a bad choice Lol! Good luck out there and tight lines brother.

That is simple question to answer. The reason I wore heavy leather cowboy boots and not water shoes or flip flops is because I live in Ohio. It's still only in the 40s with the water temperature not much warmer. Believe me I would love nothing more than to put my shorts, UV shirt, and flip flops and go fishing in my kayak but it's still just to cold to be doing that at this particular time of the year

Please let me know how you feel about the beer. With that particular type I have noticed that the colder you have it, the more amazing it will taste.

I have to agree with Plumbob on the expense stuff. But another thing to think about is that a kayak can get into places where a bass boat can't go and it is very quiet. Quite is a great thing to not spook the fish. Sure you can rack up a receipt for a kayak that would give a decent used bass boat a run for it's money with extras like motors, fish Finders, special rod holders and paddles ECT ECT. But from my experience from fishing on both a kayak and boat ( very little in a kayak), a kayak dose have a lot more advantages that a boat just can't do. But again I don't have a lot of experience (yet) on a kayak so don't take my full word on it.

Desperado your welcome. I hope you find a good finder and it works out for you.

Bob that's awesome!!! I have a few coworkers I should take fishing and tell them to try that. I should also tell them it only works if the keep searching until they find one.....think it will work?? LOL

Try Blue Moon beer it's a wheat. Has 5.4% Alc. It tastes good to. If U like wheat beers. It has orange peel in the recipe. I think it's good

Blue moon is a good beer but if you really want to treat your self to something special you should try Kentucky Bourbon Ale. Here in Ohio we have microbreweries all over the place and some of them are ok. I personally am not much of a wheat beer or IPA guy but Kentucky Bourbon Ale is a fantastic beer to drink!

Hack I didn't take any kind of offence to your comment about the anchor trolley. Actually I welcome the advise on what to get for my kayak. It's my first one so I am learning what stuff I should get, the good brands to purchase and the advise on how to use them. My kayak is a Field and Stream Shadow Caster 123. I wanted to purchase a decent kayak for my first one untill I get it down really well and spend the money on a bonified or hobbies or something with that kind of price. Here in Ohio we also have to have boating numbers for any watercraft with a motor so I have already done that step but I also think it's kinda stupid. I would understand if I had a boat with a 350 Evinrude on it but a kayak with a 30 pound thrust trolling motor doesn't exactly scream speed demon, but it is what it is I guess. Right now for my paddle I am just using the side paddle strap but I will be upgrading that quickly. Please feel free to offer advice on stuff I should consider for my kayak. I always welcome ideas and suggestions on what good purchases are, where to mount stuff ECT.
