I usually surf fish along the Atlantic coast line and I find fishing in Brooklyn NY like fishing in a cesspool.. Garbage sitting all over except in the garbage pales.. Causing rats to run rampage.. Then the local fishermen are going to complain when these areas are closed to the public. Most of the time I leave an area with more garbage then I came with.. I will pickup debris that is around me and using rubber gloves fill a plastic garbage bag.. Because I like to fish in a clean spot...

Crazy glue is only good usually for only one application because once you put the cap back on the tube it is very difficult to remove so instead to secure a knot from opening I would use clear nail polish. When I leader rigs usually I would put a drop of nail polish on the perfection loop so that it doesn't loosen up over time..

OK, I am missing something here. I normally cast 2-5 Oz weights from shore with my surf rods. I use 40 LB 4 strand braid. I use the ball of my index finger to hold the braid when I cast and just straighten my finger when casting. Now IF I was to use the joint just below the ball of the finger, yes it hurts. But when I just use the ball of the index finger there is no pain. Maybe I have just been lucky for 8 years of using Braid instead of Mono.
BALL of the INDEX finger is the key. Also gives better control, range, and accuracy.

One day the braid will cut into your finger and you will learn very quickly that your casting finger needs protection..

Sometimes I will wrap my pointer finger with sports tape to protect it during casting..

You have to protect your casting finger when using braided line on a spinning reel with a heavy weight on the line and the drag has to be tight or else the line can give you a deep cut right down to the bone..

What I have been doing to protect my fingers from the braid line is use the cut off fingers from leaking dishwashing rubber gloves. I cut the finger off the glove and place it on my casting finger to prevent it from getting cut.. This was you get the most use out of you rubber gloves.. And the rubber that is covering your wrist I cut into strips and attact the strip to a jig head or a bucktail to provide addition attraction..

I purchase a pair of rubber coated work gloves a Dollar Tree for $1.25 and they are great for Herring fishing.. If they get slimy or wet all you have to do is wipe them off..

On my lure I usually spill some clam or oyster sauce on them and then cast them out.. Or on tube baits that I place on a jig head I fill them with the sauce and then plug them with a small piece of sponge and then cast and bounce bottom...
