What I have been doing to protect my fingers from the braid line is use the cut off fingers from leaking dishwashing rubber gloves. I cut the finger off the glove and place it on my casting finger to prevent it from getting cut.. This was you get the most use out of you rubber gloves.. And the rubber that is covering your wrist I cut into strips and attact the strip to a jig head or a bucktail to provide addition attraction..

I have braid line on most of the reels I own for the most part using bait cast reels it’s not a problem but like you said on spinning reel it’s different I just keep rags with me and constantly wipe my hands 🙌 before casting and if I’m snagged I’ll wrap the line around my sleeve before pulling never 👎 use your fingers to wrap and pull it will cut you up for sure anyway that’s my method

I use the same method when targeting large northern pike with huge bait, but for my thumb to ( baitcast reel ) spool. I don't have heavy gear for this, so drag doesn't get the job done alone, must use thumb pressure to slow down initial runs. Luckily pike seem to-wear down quickly, but Ive generated a little heat this way , if I get a decent fish hooked up. Don't use rubber gloves, find that too sticky, use old leather gloves that got stiff in my trunk over a couple of years i there. Have seven fingers left. That outta be plenty to last a guy my age.

Not sure why you would hurt your fingers when using braided line. Unless your referring to when your snagged. If that’s the case keep a wood dowel in your boat or pack if bank fishing. When snagged wrap your line around your dowel and pull your snag free if possible.

When casting Braid with a Spinning Reel make sure the braid is on the Ball of your Finger and NOT on the first Joint! If it is on the joint it will hurt!

Yeah, I found out about braid the hard way. I keep a piece of broomstick about 8" long in my pocket for snags for any kind of line, much safer and is quick to deploy. First time I used it noticed the braid cut right through the paint, so my skin, that would be no contest !

I have couple-three wooded dowels laying around the boat so that they are usually within reach.

I keep a couple of pieces of 1 inch dowel rod about 8 inches with a angled slot cut half way thru.
Handy for pulling snags

You have to protect your casting finger when using braided line on a spinning reel with a heavy weight on the line and the drag has to be tight or else the line can give you a deep cut right down to the bone..

Teach, it appears a few don't understand what you and i know. Might be the way we and they are holding and casting that causes that braid cut on the pointer finger.

Sometimes I will wrap my pointer finger with sports tape to protect it during casting..

OK, I am missing something here. I normally cast 2-5 Oz weights from shore with my surf rods. I use 40 LB 4 strand braid. I use the ball of my index finger to hold the braid when I cast and just straighten my finger when casting. Now IF I was to use the joint just below the ball of the finger, yes it hurts. But when I just use the ball of the index finger there is no pain. Maybe I have just been lucky for 8 years of using Braid instead of Mono.
BALL of the INDEX finger is the key. Also gives better control, range, and accuracy.

The gloves I like are the stretchy work gloves that have the fake leather palms and fingers. They are must have fir surf fishing with braid. Throwing 4 to 12 ounces puts a lot of pressure on the finger with a spinner, and a lot of friction thumbing a conventional 100 yards or so.
