I've seen references here several times, and again recently, about applying superglue to a finished knot.
First, who amongst us has actually done this, and what were the up and down sides to it ?
It seems to me that once the glue was fully set, the body of the knot would become rigid. When it needed to flex, wouldn't it then have a tendency for cracking and subsequent failure ? I see this as primarily an issue for knots used to attach terminal tackle, not so much for main line to leaders.
Anyone have experience or thoughts on this issue ? Just thinkin'

The only time(s) I've used glue, was when finishing off the "head" of a fly, I had just tied... It seems like you've got a got point, about "loss of flexibility", and sense that a wee little bit of "extra tag-end", might be preferable to adding any kind of glue, when actually JOINING 2× different lines. (Or even "mending a parted line"... )

Hey Maxx, when I was using fluoro leader on my jigging rods, I tried superglue on the leader knots. I found 2 problems with it, 1st, you're correct, the knot won't flex to go around guides, etc. 2nd thing I noticed, since braid is made from superslick fibers, the glue doesn't really penetrate and stick to the braid. After 15 or 20 casts, the glue would start to seperate from the fibers, and hang up in the guides, causing backlashes. Now I tie the braid direct.

Because the glued knot is supposed to be stronger I tried it on the tuna rods on the Alberto knot braid to flourocarbon and didn’t lose a fish to the knot, but never lost a fish to that knot without it so I don’t put glue…..

I don’t like super glue on knots
Loon Knot Sense is a UV cure glue popular with flu fishermen.
I use this on my braid to flouro leader knot. Usually an FG or Alberto.
Makes em hold together pretty good

UV flashlight the size of the little flashlights sold at Harbor Freight. Also pen size that fit in a pocket like a pen.

I’ve done the same as Ben B …used the loon knot sense on fg knot braid to mono…the braid will tend to fray on the tag end and the uv glue reduces that…on a sunny day there is enough uv to cure the glue…and there are small pen light size uv lights you can also purchase..
Generally have 4 surf rods on the beach cart and if a knot looks bad will just move to another rod….only fish 2 at a time as a general rule though I may soak bait on 2 and cast a lure on a 3rd lite set up.

I use superglue on braid when tying a knot. Just a small drop and never had any problems with it.

Tried it once my fingers are still stuck together 😀 no I've never used it on knots but have used a dab of super gel on the hook so the soft plastic bait or trailer won't slip 🇺🇸😀👍

The sun is a readily available UV light source.
Ya have to shield this stuff with your body and work fast or it will set up immediately
