[quote=FS Digest]So I just got my first baitcaster, and I wanted to put on a better line so I put braided on it. I typically use 10lb mono on my other rods, but I used 50lb braided on my baitcaster. I’ve had one catch in like 3 days, should I try and put mono on it? Is braided a bad choice?

My water is pretty dark, and rather shallow. Thanks in advance!

50 lb braid is overkill! Go back to say 20lb braid. Put some Dacron or mono on the reel for backing, add the braided line to fill the reel, then add about three to four foot of Fluor line as a shock leader as well as being almost invisible. Now you are good to go!

The trick is to stay upright, dont lean left to right, and keep in mind you can tire the fish out, spin your kayak any direction and the net is your friend.

And secure all your stuff incase you do roll. Waterproof bags, zip lock etc. You're gonna get wet, but you don't have to tip or roll.

Whatever you do, do NOT lean way forward and off to a side somewhat. If you do so, you are going to capsize the Yak. Did that a coupe of times and lost a lot of expensive fishing gear.

What is the best knot to attach a fluorocarbon (flour!!) leader to braided line. No pancake jokes please.

The FG knot takes a little learning to tie but is worth the effort as it is the thinnest knot you can tie. The knot goes thru the rod guides and you do not even notice it. It is also a very, very strong knot!

Strippers pole dance in bars, stripers are found in both salt and fresh water areas.

Just kidding with you.

From saltwater on the east coast, Black Sea Bass wins hands down.

Why would you want to put a $1,000 IPad on Yak When a fisher finder can be had for less?

It just is not worth running several mile across the Chesapeake Bay for one or two small fish. Especially when you know there’s fish there that are over 40”. Up the bay, in Maryland, they have been harvesting that sized fish all spring.

We, in Virginia, are limited to One (or two) between 20 & 28 in. That is a saltwater rule.

They “can” “can” “can” not that they have, so, yes, why take 100 out?

The smoothest, narrowest line-to-line knot is the FG knot; slides thru all the guides without any hitches.
