So a couple of weeks ago I decided to upgrade my braid. I had the cabela’s brand 8 braid 15lb and .15mm. I bought the spider wire ultracast 8braid 15lb .13mm(.006in), and i can’t cast it anywhere near as far. It’s almost waxy and non-malleable. Any suggestions? And what braid would you go with for casting long distance for walleye?

Are you river fishing or lake?

Like the powerpro super slick 8 or something like that? I peeled it back off and stuck it in a drawer, its been there for like 5 years.

If you are just lake fishing then I see no reason to even use braid I catch a lot of big walleye on 6lb mr crappie and have no problem at all I have never liked braid because it's just way more of a hassle than it needs to be and it has no stretch or realism in it.

Not trying to be rude just giving my opinion good luck!

If you have sticky bottoms or lots of weeds the braid is good for keeping rigs i always fish a few pounds heavier than i really need to to save gear

Get a rag and run the line through it slowly under pressure as you take it off the spool. Should help take off the coating.

I tried that already and it didn’t help at all. Thank you for the suggestion though I appreciate it.

No. I haven’t touched that stuff. It’s the more premium spiderwire but it blows.

No I don’t have and can’t have a boat. I’m all shore-fishing and a few of my spots I need to cast far to get into them.

I like Power Pro Better than Spider Wire. The less coating the better I like it and my rods eyelets.

Only need braid if you need it. I have it on my big rods for Main line. All the small fish get mono. If a guide using rod daily its worth having to not lose equipment when teaching inexperienced anglers. I see why many guys switch to it but if not working well go away from it. Maybe vendor has a satisfaction guarantee?? I wonder if it was faulty section of line when manufactured??

I suggest that you call the people at Spider Wire and ask.

I've used Power Pro since it's inception. Cast great and superior feel for bottom and strikes.
