Papa Bear JD: I agree 100%, in my young early life and training in the U.S. Air Force, we had to do some basic training in parachute jumping off a tower. It almost split me in two. That cured me of wanting to jump for fun. I intended to become a pilot and that might become a necessity, but it didn't happen.

I was in just after Korea and before Korea and they didn't need pilots, so I came home and served my time in the reserves. Just Sayin...RJS

Thanks for your service RJS. I was a little later VN 1966, 67 and 68.

How many of you older members of this forum rely more on Google or Bing for your memory than just thinking? Well, I certainly do.

For example: I happend to remember seeing a photo of a surfer flying down a large wave, and right under his board was a large shark, not two or three feet below him!

Since I was curious, I googled this and guess what? I could not count the number of photos of similiar situations! Don't believe me, go look for yourself. Now I understand that a lot could be faked, and created by photoshop, but it was still an amazing and increadible shot.

Now it is because humans aren't tasty? If we were, there would be a lot more one arm, one legged, or disappeared surfers, don't you think? Dont forget Australia has lost one Prime Minister and I believe I read just recently another person disappeard there while surfing.

Folks, I have done a lot of crazy and dangerous things in my life, but there's no way I am going to paddle out into the ocean on a surfboard amidst a sea full of large sharks and pretend to be a saltine cracker with a slice of baloney or ham on top! In my mind that is playing Russian Roulette by loading the revolver and only taking one shell out! What say yee! Just Sayin...RJS

With you 100% RJ. I'd rate this one right up there with jumping out of a perfectly goo Airplane!

We hit a remote trout stream with crystal clear water and fished a woolly bugger streamer fly on a spinning rod & reel. We caught a lot of good quality fish and had a blast! You guys ever fish flies on spinning gear? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHpm5Wb172I

All the time for Michigan Steelhead, along with beads and eggs. They all work quite well.

I’m just curious as to where all of you buy your gear. I’ve heard TackleDirect is a good online retailer but I want to hear the opinions of others.

I recently had a very good first time experience with Monster Tackle out on the west coast. The staff was very helpful, the pricing was not out of line, and they shipped the order USPS, and it was to me here in N/W Michigan, in two days. I will order from these folks again for sure. Also Tackle Warehouse and Tackle direct are very good outfits too.

It looks like the head of that bass is way bigger than goes with the body. If the body matched the head that fish would be twice as big. We catch some after the spawn sometimes that are real skinny in relation to their head. If they were fat like they should be the 3 pounders we catch would be 5+ pounds easy. Your pic. reminds me of those. Did it look like that to you in person? Maybe it just looks different in the pic. Nice fish no matter what. Congrats.

Over populated, and stunted. Usually causes big heads and smaller bodies than what a normal fish would have in relation to head size.

I recently got a fishing pole, reel, and hit the water to begin my adventure. I was given a chatter bait by a gentleman who sold me the pole. Today while I was out fishing, I stabbed or hooked myself with the chatter bait and it drew blood. What should I do or can I catch anything? Please help and give me some advice since my paranoia is eating away at me.

I started fishing when I was 10 years old. During the last 62 years I've stuck myself more times than I can count. Never had any trouble behind any of these accidents. Wash off the wound and keep an eye on it. Any sign of infection see a Dr. In the mean time don't sweat the small stuff.

Probably not as much as they did before they started fishing, no matter what age.

In Wisconsin we call those Lawyers or Eel Pout. A member of the cod fish if I recall.
They are very good eating with a firm white meat but a bit challenging to clean.

Those are actually Burbot, not Snakehead. Smooth skin like a catfish. Snakehead have skin like armor and a a hassle to clean, but worth the trouble. Both are good eating.

I know it is dirty.

Look on the bottom of the reel foot. You'll find a number there. Get ahold of of Garcia, give them that # and they will tell you when the reel was made, gear ratio, (ect.)

The Northern Snakehead is native to eastern Asia. It can grow to 36" in length and weigh up to 20 pounds. They are ferocious fighters and good to eat. They can breathe air and walk on their fins across land. Once introduced, they will eventually take over the lakes, ponds, rivers and streams where they become the top predator. If you have snakeheads in your local waters you might as well get used to it; they aren't going away. Sorry, but you might as well learn to like them. You'll be happier in the long run.

Only problem with eatin' them is, you darn near need a chainsaw to clean the damn things.

Smoke 'em. You'd be amazed how good they are. And hey, no jokes about being hard to light, okay?

Does anyone know how to prevent hands from smelling like fish when fishing? I was thinking wearing gloves might help?

Will wearing gloves help prevent hands from smelling like fish, for example my hands stink after cutting up squid for bait and I really want to prevent this. I could try wearing disposable gloves but would prefer to know if this actually works because I could buy a proper lasting pair of gloves instead of being wasteful. If so, what type of gloves would work best?

Thank you.
