There’s nothing more exciting and fun as a bluefish blitz. Congrats!

Wow ! And off the beach. I’ve seen a few of these by bulkheads and jetties. This is first time I’ve heard of from the surf. I hope we get to see these become more and more plentiful.

Nice to out on the beach fishing. It’s always a bonus to catch something! The hi lo with a bucktail tipped with gulp on the bottom and a gulp teaser above is my go to rig when there are fluke around. Doggies are a pain in the butt but still fun to catch something.

Went to manasquan inlet this morning, fished the end of low tide and then into high tide. Caught 2 blues, 3 pounders or so. But it seems that the bite seems to be better on the low tide, and on jigs with a 4 gulp on your hook. Some were using bombers, but it was a hit or miss.

You might want to try otter tails on your jigs instead of gulp. They hold up way better and have scent and great action. Available in straight or curly tails and several popular Colors.

Took 81 years old brother Joe and 70 years old friend Dave fishing in Manasquan Inlet this evening during a cold, sunny nor’easter on the incoming tide. We caught 12 bluefish. Not bad for 3 old guys. I didn’t see anyone catch a fish. I caught, tagged and released an 18” bluefish on a spoon soon after I started fishing. Then I didn’t get a hit for nearly 2 hours. After the incoming current got swift, I caught, tagged and released a bluefish double on an Ava A-17 and brother John’s homemade synthetic buck tail teaser. Soon after that I caught, tagged and released my first ever bluefish triple with 2 teasers and a plain hook Ava A-17. Catching my bluefish limit on one cast was awesome . Then a bluefish bit off my teaser. After that, a bluefish bit off my Ava. Just before I left, I caught, tagged and released my seventh and final bluefish for the day. Caught 32 fish: 25 bluefish, 5 hickory shad, a fluke and a kingfish in 12 trips to the inlet this year. Tagged 27 fish: 25 bluefish, a fluke and a kingfish. None were recaptured yet.

Congrats! I admire your dedication and happy to see it pay off. Thanks for sharing!

Only interested in New Jersey Saltwater fishing .

From what I’m hearing, blues and stripers are the hot bite on beaches of LBI and I guess the Barnegat light inlet as well fluke are being caught in the bays. Did hear of a couple big drum caught on beach also. I’ve been tied up all spring with some business and haven’t made it down yet. Haven’t started up the boat yet either. Figures, the bite is always on fire when I can’t go.

Fish over Wrecks, rocks for blackfish sea bass. Troll umbrella rigs and mojo’s for stripers. Offer free trips to experienced fishermen who will teach you.

Are you fishing saltwater, or freshwater smaller lakes, creeks etc.? It makes a difference. Hobie, and Old Town have to be the top brands for kayaks made for fishing in saltwater, also freshwater but there are other less expensive ones that will work fine in gentler conditions.

Great catch on the fluke! I've never eaten one...but I suspect they might taste like small halibut?

AKA Flounder, great tasting fish!

What is the general consensus of the 28-31 inch regs?

It can’t hurt the biomass but It comes a little late to have an affect on spawning fish. I thought it was supposed to help the numbers of fish migrating from Chesapeake and south where limits have been more liberal. If all states on east coast have to adopt these regs it should have a positive affect on the biomass. I’m more into striper fishing for the purpose of catching them rather than eating them. If this results in catching better numbers of quality fish more consistently, then I’m OK with it.

Nice! I just saw something on Facebook that said they’re changing the slot limit to 29”-31” effective as soon as June 2, 2023. Ask your local bait and tackle shop if they’ve heard anything.

Been waiting to post until I was able to show something worthwhile. Finally got my trophy Striper. I appreciate when others post and learning from you all. Been fishing my whole life (49 years young) but only over past year on the surf. Caught this 36” Striper with salted clams off sea isle city surf with my 11 ft ugly stick and Penn 6600 LC reel. Only problem was the one fish limit! Need to get back out there. Good luck all!

Beautiful, Congrats !
