Down the river came a couple of hundred birds diving, pulling rain fish parts from the surface as the water was exploding! First true blitz in a few years in the Shrewsbury River in northeast Monmouth County,Sea Bright, NJ. My son called and told me to get a rod as they were heading towards me. On my fourth cast I hooked up and the enormous school of 6 pound bluefish arrived! Was using a white bucktail on Power Pro 20 lb and a 20 pound Seagur fluoro leader. Exhilarating fight. Got a second one in which I released. Bluefish tacos Thursday evening.
With the Shrewsbury River in the background I am holding the one I kept on my upper deck. 6 pounds, 24 inches and very sharp teeth as all the yellow eyed demons possess.

Blitzes are awesome. That's one of the things I miss most from when I had my boat at the Shore. Thanks for sharing Martin.

Great looking fish. Good sized one too. I've been fishing the Manasquan Inlet for the past 2 months and it seems that the bluefish are moving on since the temperature seems to be climbing.
Best fishing seems to occur when it's cloudy or hazy outside due to the Canadian wildfires. Whenever it started to rain, that's when it seems like the bluefish blitz starts.
Can't wait for the fall cocktail bluefish blitz in October.
Nice report on the bluefishing! Those are some very feisty fish...and take no shame in cutting your lure off from time to time!

do i also see the mouth of the navesink in the bkground?
Indeed you do Smitty. I live opposite Buoy 17 on the Shrewsbury. The confluence of the two rivers is about a half mile north of me. Once I discovered fluorocarbon leaders I became a 'schoolie striper maven' in the sedges between my place and the Oceanic Bridge. I use a varied choice of artificial but 4 inch Your Chrystals are very productive. One thing is I had to relearn the river after Superstorm Sandy!
