I caught 5 hickory shad, a bluefish, a fluke and a kingfish there this year with my brother John’s homemade buck tail teaser and Ava A-17. Dog Beach was hot this week. Striped bass are hitting SP Minnows. Water is still too cold. Fishing should get better by the end of next week.

Oh yeah, they're hauling!!
Thanks for the info, I'm going to give it a shot on Sunday. I'll pick up some finger mullet on the pt.pleasant side, drive to the Manasquan side and drop a couple of high/low rigs in with half a finger mullet on each hook. I can always switch to a lure or popper on the one. What you think?

Bait on two rods and casting lures on a third rod is the way to go. Striped bass are hitting clams now. Bait runner reels or loose drag is needed on bait rods. The fish 🎣 stole a few rods this year already. Good luck. Post pics. I’ll be there Monday evening.
Wouldn't hurt to have an AVA 17 along with a small Hopkins. Steel leader if blues show up.
I only have 2 rods, and I'll be fishing high/low rigs on both , but I'll switch to a silver daredevil or 3 or 4 oz jig if there not biting on the bait.
I have daredevils and a couple of 3 oz Hopkins to cast out, but hope to use the high/low rigs first, either with finger mullet or a bunker cut up. Clams fall off the hook to easy, and I don't want to bother tying them up on the hook, unless you know a easier way.

":small hopkins" ??? like a crippled herring?
Big bluefish were in Manasquan Inlet today. You should catch some on mullet Sunday. I never had fresh clams fall off my hook.

Do you know if the blues were caught on metal or bait. I'll stop at the bait shop and pick some clams to ,give em a try. I'll probably pick up some extras ,bring em home and salt em.
Were they biting on metal jigs or bait. I'm going to use some finger mullet on the high low rigs, may pick up some fresh clams if they got them, will probably pick up some extras and salt em. What size weight to hold the bottom, I have 5&6 oz.

Two oz metal is good. You can only hold bottom on the slack tide in the inlet. The bottom of the inlet has many snags. Plastic shad is best. I usually fish on the jetty in the inlet with an Ava A-17 and teaser rig on the first two hours of incoming tide. The current doesn’t change until two hours after the tide changes. There are no parking spots on nice weather days when the fish are biting. 5 or 6 oz pyramid sinkers should work. If the current is too swift in the inlet, you may do better in the surf. Good luck 🍀👍.
Thanks, much appreciated, changed my plan and am going to go on Monday and Wednesday,10 am high on Monday and Wednesday should be around noon. Plus during the week should be a little quieter, with people working.
