That's a real Slab Nanook! I've never caught one, I don't think they're very common up here. Good Job.

Wow ! And off the beach. I’ve seen a few of these by bulkheads and jetties. This is first time I’ve heard of from the surf. I hope we get to see these become more and more plentiful.

The Sheepsuead can really pull some drag muscle fish as they are quik to pile wrap you up:-)!!
Interesting sand fleas do make sense will try them. We normally catch all our Pompano's and some Permit's and smaller snappers on fleas.
Also interesting is the surf catch it there structure around where you fished as mentioned above normally we catch our Sheepshead near pilings and rock barriers aka jetties.
I am a free diver for over 65 years and can't ever recall seing a Sheepshead over sand bottom near shore, unless rocks or structures near by.
Will give them a try if we cant catch our crabs first, we get Popmanos on the crabs as well and if real large fiddlers we can get a Permit too.

HUGE Fish..in Sarasota we hushed for them in March April spawn at 15 inches. Big rib cage filet so best baked. Nice catch...we used sand fleas for bait...thoughts? Thanks Guy
