Thanks bahmer,I enjoyed that version of the Marine Hymn.
ghaynes,
Yes he was a very good tipper. Back then you went door to door once a month to collect for the paper., usually the first Monday of the month. He was rarely there & I collected my money from Mrs. Mary Harmon Bryant. They always remembered me on my birthday & Christmas. If y’all will indulge me I have a true short story about him. I went to collect one month & he was there resting in his Lazy Boy. I was probably around 14 & weighed about 90-100 lbs. he asked Mrs. Mary Harmon to send me into the den. I was scared to death, I eased up next to him & he felt of one of my calf muscles & said “boy are about ready to come out ?”
The Tide !!! I’m 73 now but was Coach Bryant’s paper boy in his early years in Tuscaloosa. Both sons went to Auburn & I did some post graduate studies at UA.
ghaynes ,
Beautiful part of God’s world. Are you a Big Orange fan ?
Frenchie,
Me too re: no chance to fish at PI.
Ghaynes,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!! You’re about 8 yrs behind me. I thought I’ve been nearly everywhere but I’ve never heard of Strawberry Plains Tn. I’ll look it up.
Wvmike,
The others are correct, it’s an umbrella or Alabama rig. They can’t be used in most Bass Elite series tournaments. I’ve found the smaller versions to work better.
SneezeC,
Your natural instinct is to immediately set the hook but as others have added —- wait about a second. I use a lateral hook set.
Wvmike,
Wonderful wienny dogs. Excellent pets. All dogs have their good & bad points. Nearly all Dalmatians are hard of hearing & the draw back on these little guys is back problems especially as they age. My sister has had several & they ALL had spinal problems as they got older.
Wvmike,
Snapping turtle—- old saying is if he bites you he won’t turn you loose until it thunders.
Blackberries & here when call the larger variety Dewberries.
Wvmike,
Osage Orange, Horse Apple,Hedge Apples,Bois D’ Arc (Bodoc). It’s found in several counties in Alabama but prevalent in Greene, Sumter, Pickens & Perry & Marengo counties. Wood is extremely hard & durable. I know of two pieces that are the anchor post for a cattle catch pin in Greene County that are well over 100 years old & still being used today. It’s best to drill holes in it before attempting to hammer in fence staples or nails.
Bggent,
Yes you are correct, I have seen my fair share of ads for certain sure fire lures. In my case , however, it’s mostly a country boy & 74 years old.
NoahB43,
I have one lake where I fish where you can use use a rainbow color of worms but the go to color is motor oil/ chartuese in either worms or lizards. Strike/ catch ratio is 4:1 over other variants.
Doitright,
I remember that fishing program. I think his name was Harold Ensley. I believe he was from either Kansas or Oklahoma. He was one of the pioneers in fishing programs. Really nice gentleman.
