Does the color of a plastic worm really matter? Also, would it be a good idea to use a green worm in weeds? I would think that a green worm would blend in with the weeds and the fish couldn't see it very well.

Hoss: this were the level of fishing expertise enters. Twitch, wiggle, rock and roll! I doubt seriously that a bass would be unaware of a worm of any color would not be detected in the surrounding grass or lillynpads of his home area! Can you entice him to pick it up? Just Sayin...RJS

All of my worms are Purple, Black, or Blue which are probably the same to a Bass.

Another opinion: color does matter, but the perfect color incorrectly presented and worked wrongly will be out fished by the wrong color correctly presented...everytime. Equally important to presentation is scent. So many fishermen ignore this fact. Watch how a carp or catfish will circle a piece of dogfood to zero in on it in a pond. A fresh worm from a new pack will get you more pickups than an old gnarly one out of the bottom of an old tackle box that smells of two-cycle fumes mixed with cigar smoke. When worm fishing, always, Always, ALWAYS, watch your line and the point where it enters the water. Pay close attention to those tiny twitches, they all are not bream teasing it.

Welcome to the Forum, Noah. I'm not a bass fisherman, basically just walleye, trout and saltwater. I have found that the footprint of a dry fly and the color of the nymph will make a difference. Walleye, color doesn't seem to make that much difference, action maybe, live bait seems to work better, smell? Saltwater, live bait seems to works the best, depending on your target. There so many different kinds of saltwater fish that have so many different tastes, likes, and desires. I find that it is best to decide what you are going to target and go after it with whatever works best. I will always try to have some live shrimp close to me, for whatever I target. (MHO)

In Oregon, our most successful color for soft plastics is green pumpkin. Like has been said by proBass fisherman Mike Iaconelli and countless others in the fly fishing world: Match the hatch.

NoahB43, you must be the luckiest human being on earth. You have reached the master, the great sahib, the great Carnac, worlds most sought after expert on the worlds soft plastics baits. First of all, Mister Twister is known world wide for his extensive knowledge of color choices. Now that being said, all plastic worms were produced to resemble mainly the foods of the large mouth bass. Ok, small snakes, eels, lizards, the old night crawler. I’m sure I left out some. Point is the color you choose is to represent the fish’s prey. That narrows it down to a few colors. Forget the colors beneath the surface. You pretty much know the colors of the above mentioned so you would try to match. Now being the expert I am, and I’m expecting so much crap from this, you have no idea how they gonna pile on me. This is my final answer, fish the brightest, most outlandish, out of this world colors offered from 2” to however long they make em today and forget logics. Does not work these days and you will find this out. Do right the opposite of what your brain says. You will be successful my friend.

There’s truth to what he says, but nothing is etched in stone. What works today may not tomorrow. But Ron gave you a great starting point. You’ll find the best color is the one you develope the most confidence in.

I've been using a pink bubblegum color yum dinger hooked wacky style & it's catching fish. My normal colors are watermelon red flakes & green pumpkin. In the fall is when I normally use wild & bright colors. Anything that works for me I'll keep using it regardless of what I might think. Mister twister is definitely my go to answer man when I'm stumped trying to use plastics. He's the man. Hope I didn't embarrass him.

I consider it my job & I owe it to my fellow members, & memberettes, to be good at my job. Say Twister, are you an international expert on my world favorite food, watermellon? Some pilgrams would walk a mile for a Camel. I'd walk 2 1/2 miles for a watermelon. I've had some good ones from down your way. My garden soil is a little too tight for growing good melons. I've been adding organic matter for several years trying to improve it. Time for me to go to roost. Good night, fellow members. You to Twister.

No no no First of all who spelled memberettes for you? And you asking me if I’m an expert on melons? Read the above left, where am I? And last but oh no not in the least, you spoke one truth, you have been spreading organic crap around. I’ve forgotten more about melons than you’ll ever know, sir. Memberettes, I have nothing else to say.
