Howdy "neighbor"...sure looks like you had a good day, and thanks for the photos too.
I agree with Barnacles, would give anything to go fishing with my Dad again. I'm 74 and Dad has been gone for a long time, but I have countless wonderful memories -- and at this stage in my life...memories count the most. Enjoy your Dad Barnacles...and take him fishing again soon.
Not Montana...trout fly fishing is non-existent, access laws are arcane -- but the Winters are mild ;-) I jest, they don't call Montana "The Last Best Place" for nothing.
FS....you just wait until you hook a big Large Mouth with that fly rod -- he'll wear you out while you're wearing him out. Tight Lines!
bric....yup, some days are diamonds, some days are coal -- good on ya for having a diamond Cutthroat day. And...I'm a little tired of the 90+ degree days too -- not used to this! Tight Lines!
Great photos...thanks for posting them. Indeed, trout fishing in Montana can't be beat. We call it "The Last Best Place" for a reason!
Close, but I think you may have me by a few. I have 4 spinning rods, 2 bait casting rods, and 18 fly rods (between 7 feet & 9.5 feet and between 2.4 oz & 3.8 oz). My wife's a "yarn-a-holic"....I quietly keep track of her skein expenditures...and then "invest" in another fly rod. Guess we all suffer from the same obsession to varying degrees. Tight lines!
bbm69,
Poorer vision, less nimble fingers, and unreliable knots brought me to look for alternatives. The 2 items listed below are easy to install, never catch in a line guide, and are inexpensive & reliable. Both styles come in clear, and florescent....and, as a bonus, the florescent color works well as an indicator when nymphing.
Leader Links at: http://www.leaderlinksflyfishing.com/
or
Anglers Image Fly Line to Leader Cast Connectors (a Google search will take you to the item at Cabela's
or Bass Pro Shop).
or
"No Knot" eyelets are also still on the marked, but over the years fly lines have evolved to the point where the barbed eyelets are pretty difficult to install...once in they work great. (a Google search should find them).
Tight lines & dry waders,
Bill

30 years you say? If you were in Panama or Hurlburt field in 69 - 73, I was a prop tech back in the day. I knew the air craft well.
Howdy Plum,
Nope...during that time I was stationed in Alaska...back end "crew" on RC-135s. Also enjoying the best doggone Grayling and Rainbow fly fishing ever...although Montana is pretty darn close ;-).
I'm by no means young...but will stil admit to being foolish, and after 30+ years in the USAF...I have
more hours in a C-130 (Hurkey Bird) that I care to remember. It's one doggone dependable aircraft!!
Thanks for the joke too.

Welcome aboard the Stage M74. Great group of humble folks here and not a liar in the bunch. Well, except for that one guy. You know who I'm talking about.
Thank you Spirit...according to John Gierach, "All Fishermen are Liars" ;-)
Thanks Ed...love your signature line -- truth be told, the same thing happens to me.
