I have a 300 and 308 which have been sitting in the basement for the last 20 years plus. These posts want me to pull them out give them a good cleaning and set them up on appropriate rods and do some classic old school fishing this fall.

I use a Stradic Ci4+ 3000 paired to a St Croix Avid Inshore 7ft medium light fast action. Great setup for saltwater fishing on the Outer Banks NC

Same thing happened to my Fenwick 7 ft 6 light rod. Now it is a 6 ft 6 medium action rod.

7 ft medium heavy bait casting rod with bait casting reel loaded with 50-60 lb power pro and 70lb fluorocarbon leader approx. 2 feet, use large spinner baits . Fish the moon phases. Best is moon rise 2 hours before and two hours after. Also moon overhead and moon underfoot again 2 hours before and two hours after. This comes from a muskie fisherman(not me) who has averaged over a 100 muskies per year that has taught me how to catch them, fish the windy shorelines, once the water temps reach 80 degrees put the musky rods away, best months are May/June than again September into November, muskies go deep once the water gets to warm and/or to cold.

some paddletails- 3-4 inch/keitech and Z-Man. Also those narrow gap hooks are perfect for rigging paddletails and straight lining 4 inch senkos, they look like 3/0 size.

Definitely kayak. Reasons: Closer to the water so much easier to grab the fish you catch. Better bait presentations as your are closer to the water. Kayaks can get into the skinny water that boats can't touch. Good workout. Much more comfortable than a Jon boat or standard row boat. Dozens of setup options(check the You Tube videos). More and quicker maneuvering. Would recommend a sit on top kayak as they are more comfortable and many have stand up options. Loading and unloading much quicker than any boat. Many more launch point options than boats have. Can fish in moderately windy days with minimal issues using anchors/wind socks or even drifting a 2 gallon bucket. Just a much more enjoyable experience than a boat and I have fished in many boats and have access to several but never use as I catch way more fish in my kayaks.

Six mile area would be around Avalon pier_ Kill Devil Hills. May want to check that pier to see what they are catching, you could also stop at TW's Kitty Hawk(around Mile post 3) to see what people are catching. That time period is the start of the fish coming back south . Big drum start coming back through in early October as well as trout. Mid October to end of November is the best time to fish the Outer Banks.

Also a good place to hang in the evening as they have a bar and food specials each night with live music . Very popular hang out in the evening. The beaches in South Nags Head are also good to fish for blues, flounder Spanish and Pompano. Try using a drop shot technique with 7 foot medium or medium light or what ever you have around that size, Use 3 or 4 inch white gulp mullet on a 1/0 mosquito hook. If you are not familiar with a drop shot rig look it up on how to tie it online. Just work up and down the South Nags Head beaches early morning or in the evening as well as incoming high tide. . Also check the Nags Head pier as that gives up a wider variety of fish than most of the other piers. Check TW's Bait and Tackle daily reports as they cover the piers and the Little Bridge which is good for speckled trout in the early morning before the sun comes up.Same drop shot technique works for the trout as well as sea mullet, blues and puppy drum if they are around. Check the beach at low tide to see where the deeper water is and mark those areas( I use the houses behind the beach as marks). Should only need to cast 10-15 yards as most fish are just off the beach especially at high tide.

Berkley Nanofil, not a braided line but a synthetic single core line. Longest casting line I have ever used and I have used many of them.

Use smaller hooks(size 10-12) and smaller baits(wax worms), use some type of sensitive indicator(very small bobber) or very sensitive ultra lite setup that allows you to feel the bite. Set the hook quickly.

Yum Dingers on a per worm basis will catch many more fish than any Yamamato. I have caught 20 + bass on the same dinger before changing it. Depending on how much time you fish and how many fish you catch determines the true value of rod/reel , I have both low cost setups as well as $500 plus rod and reel combos. When fishing tournaments I stick with the high price setups as they are more reliable when catching dozens of fish in a day with the ultimate goal of winning a 20K tournament.

Was out in my kayak yesterday working the shoreline and also the deeper water when a bass hole comes running up 10 yards off my deeper side like he owned the public lake, courtesy is a fleeting item in our society. He actually saw me cast into the deeper water just before he came up on me .

Very simplistic explanation, there is much more to moon phases than this provides and various moon phases can be species specific.

I always reel with my left hand no matter what type of reel it is. The dominant hand (right) provides more function, casting, lure/bait movement, hooking and playing the fish.
