Judge 32, The Halibut cost about $20.00 per/# with the cost of the charter, the processing & the shipping all figured in. About the price it would cost in the Lower 48, MN., over the counter. The processing and the shipping, I think, came to about $10.00 per/#. The processor and the shipper was right next to the "Salty Dog Saloon" in Homer. I can't remember the name of the place, the captain of the charter recommended the place. I have no complaints.

I would have kept the Reds and maybe the Kings but they were not to be had, it was to late in the year. Silvers are fine to eat but I didn't want to mess with them. I think, with the cost of the charter, the processing & shipping, the Halibut came to about $20.00 per/# in both '09 and '17. About what it cost in the States. The experience of course, was priceless!

Hi Larry, Welcome aboard! We are from Caledonia, Mn., 14 miles from the Miss. River, grew up on the North Branch of the Whitewater River, one of the best trout fishing rivers in MN. and are currently staying in South Padre Island. I have fished the Laguna Madre and the Gulf for the last 10 Winters. It's tough to catch fish down here in the Winter. I have fished along the Gulf and the Luguna Madre in Mexico Beach & Pensicola, Fl., Gulf Shores & Orange Beach AL., Port Aransas, TX. and now South Padre Island, and the Port Isabel area. The best fishing is soon to come, the Sheepshead are just starting to turn on. The rest are soon to follow. You may want to check out Long Island Village in Port Isabel, TX. They are right on the Canal and may be what you are looking for. If I can be of more help, let me know.

I have fished out of Ninichik, Anchor Point. Stayed in Homer and drove up to Anchor Pt. You will fill out in a short time, no problem. They will have everything except warm clothes and rain gear. You will need the strong back and arms. It's a challenge for a 75 year old. It wasn't so bad in '09 but I got tried in '17. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I had it processed in Homer and sent home to MN. The price wasn't bad, they will ship it to your home when you want it. As far as the salmon goes, you will catch as many as you want to but I didn't keep any or send any home. Most of them were silver salmon, and you could snag them if you wanted to, this was in Aug. I didn't, because you could catch them on just about anything. I used silver spoons and flies. I took my 8# 10' fly rod and a 11 1/2', 3/16 - 3/4 oz. spinning rod that I built to use with eggs while fishing on the Lake Mich. tributaries. I had a 4000 series Shimano on the spinning rod with 20# braid w/20# fc. on it. You can carry 2 piece rods on the plane but they have to be cased and you have to have the flight attendant put them in the long locker by the entrance. No problem! I can't remember the names of the charter or the processor but I can give them to you when I get home in MN. Right now I'm trying to catch some sheepshead, trout and redfish down South Pradre Island, TX. Let me know if I can help you out.

We tried them many different ways, and then fed them to the seagulls.

Nice trout, they sure pretty this time of the year. How do you keep your tip top and upper guides from freezing in those temps.

Mornin' Joe, That is good to know, I didn't know that. Thank you very much! The problem is, his broken rod tip is a Fenwick, which is chestnut colored, I don't think mudhole has a chestnut colored blank, but then again he could paint one of the sections. The problem solved for you Mightbeagoat!

Looking at the size of that rod and the size of the fish, somebody had some fun! Tight lines, Buddy.

Could be just as simple as a compliment. But I don’t hear the tone. On the other hand, I’ve noticed some things about certain fishermen... They think they own all the fish in the lake and they can be very jealous. Mainly trout fishers come to think of it. I’ve never understood these qualities. And before everyone gets all worked up, I’m not saying everyone, but there are lots I’ve encountered like that. They don’t want you to know what they’re using. And they will lie about it if you ask. Say thanks and keep on fishing.

Could be just as simple as a compliment. But I don... (show quote)

I've been fishing trout for 70 years and I have never met a trout fisherman I didn't like. In fact, I have never met a fisherman I didn't like.

Well Tilted03, neither of the rod & reel combinations are going to work very well and if you want to avoid a great deal of frustration, either get a casting reel or a spinning rod or maybe one of each. Good Luck!

I would call them, they did have a lifetime warrenty on their rods. I broke a very old Fenwick on a salmon, still landed the salmon, called them, sent it in, and they sent me a new HMX because they no longer made the rod that I had. They do not cover a rod broken from neglect. Otherwise, go to Mudhole.com they do have rod components but not rod tip sections for rods. Order a rod kit from them and they will tell you how to build a rod. It takes long time to build one. If you need help, contact me and I will help you.
