Hello my name is Larry milford .I have fished my whole life and I am 71 yrs old.I have not had much experience fishing salt water , but I bought a 21.5 Majek rfl said to be the shallowest running boat of all the boats made to fish the Laguna Madre .The Laguna Madre is the water between the Texas coast and South Padre Island. If any of you fish that area ,I want to learn all I can about it. I grew up in Lake City Colorado,we had a ranch 5 miles north of Lake City. The Lake Fork of the Gunnison river ran for three and a half miles through our ranch.Until I was old enough to work I fished every day all day on that river.I perfected river trout fishing and really enjoyed every minute of it.A few yrs ago I bought a 24 ft SeaArk with a small cabin that sleeps two.I fished the Mississippi river several times and caught some respectable catfish. That was great fun.I live in Amarillo tx but I am looking for a place in Port Isabel on the water. Hope to learn from anyone willing to share their knowledge of the Texas Gulf Coast Fishing. Thanks

Hi Larry, Welcome aboard! We are from Caledonia, Mn., 14 miles from the Miss. River, grew up on the North Branch of the Whitewater River, one of the best trout fishing rivers in MN. and are currently staying in South Padre Island. I have fished the Laguna Madre and the Gulf for the last 10 Winters. It's tough to catch fish down here in the Winter. I have fished along the Gulf and the Luguna Madre in Mexico Beach & Pensicola, Fl., Gulf Shores & Orange Beach AL., Port Aransas, TX. and now South Padre Island, and the Port Isabel area. The best fishing is soon to come, the Sheepshead are just starting to turn on. The rest are soon to follow. You may want to check out Long Island Village in Port Isabel, TX. They are right on the Canal and may be what you are looking for. If I can be of more help, let me know.

Thanks for the info.I have studied Long Island Village .I don't like the nearly 300 per mo HOA fees.I need to make my way to port Isabel soon.I have several properties to look at. Most of the time I will be spending in port Isabel will be in the winter ,so I hope to figure out the fishing in the winter. I enjoyed your post please let me know if you think of anything else you would like to add.

If I were you and wanted to buy a place down here, I would check out Arroyo City. It's close to South Padre Island, TX. and Brownsville, TX. and Harlingen, TX. all with in 20 miles. But, there is nothing at Arroyo City but fishing the Luguna Madre. No shopping, no decent places to eat, nothing but 3 bait shops. It is a fishing village and a good one. Places are cheap and there are quite a few places for sale. If you want better, more action, check out Luguna Hights or Luguna Vista. Laguna Vista is really nice! Nice golf course! Nice town! Laguna Hights doesn't have many nice places that I know. If I had my choice, it would be Arroya City but I'm sure my bride would not even consider it. Good luck and tight lines! I have 4 couples in Harlingen that own places at the Eastgate RV & Trailer Court that fish and golf and they and their brides love it. That is where we are going next year. Will you just be down here the Winter months?
