Does anyone out there know of someone in the Denver Colorado who can help me perform some standard maintenance on a couple spinning reels? They are Garcia reels with the flat gearbox in the rear.
Hey Flyguy, where is this bottom-rig post you are referring to?
Folks, thanks for all the input. Final question: does anyone use braid on the Zebco style reels?
Hey fisher folk,
1. Is it true that braid, on a bait caster, is somewhat less susceptible to backlashes than mono, flouro or copolymer?
2. Does it make sense to spool all my spinning reels with braid and then add a leader when I want the added stealth?
3. Are the Albright and double uni knots of about equal reliability when joining dissimilar line types and diameters?
Thank you for your time and input.
Is braid less susceptible to backlashing than mono or flouro?
Jake, thank you. I’ll check it out tomorrow after church.
Thanks guys for your replies. However, the point of my inquiry might not have been clear. What I really want know is, in general, what fishing applications are best supported by which rod/reel combo parameters. For instance, do I want a really sensitive rod for panfishing on a lake? ML for trout? M for bass? H for catfish? Looking for a published article that would make those kinds of recommendations.
Sounds like Cubsfan is truly the eternal optimist. 😉
Can anyone out there point me to a reliable and concise report on when to use which weight and length of rod? My wife is having trouble casting beyond a few yards. I think her rod is too light and too short but I want more input before i make a purchase.
Thx
Charlykilo and Rutinbuck, thx for the input. I’ll check out those resources.
RJS, I have a bait caster and at least four open faced reels spooled with different wt line. Those are the ones I use. The reel in question is my wife’s backup. I either need to fix it or replace it. If it’s fixable, that’s my first choice.
I have a Garcia ABU-MATIC 170. It will cast but not reel in reliably because the line engagement pins don’t want to pop back out. I plan to break it down far enough to clean and grease it, but am not confident that will solve the problem. Would appreciate any pertinent comments from you experts out there.
Blessings
Hey Zildgian134,
Are you a drummer?
Denny, it’s good to hear the gospel on this, or any, public forum. Especially now. Thank you.
And thank you Fishing Stage.
Oops...complete and rapid recovery that is.
