When is a good time to fish Spring Lake in Santa Rosa, CA. Bass and Bluegill only?
Good one Matt. Were you trolling, or casting, or sitting and waiting for the bite. Bait? Lure?
I drove by glassy Tomales Bay yesterday and was wondering about fishing the bay. Is it safe to fish from an 12 ft inflatable raft with electric motor? What can you catch and what time of year is best? Are there any Tomales Bay fisherman out there?
Speaking of Lake Kerman: HUGE Brook Trout hang out there and school up to spawn certain times of the year. Ken's in Bridgeport has all that info.
Not just a pliers, specifically a small needle nose pliers is what I use and it works perfectly. And of course keep the line tight when retrieving a fish.
Try the campground number. (877) 444-6777. A little known fact is from Lake George there is a short hike to Crystal lake where you can catch golden trout from the bank. Ive used small panther martin spinners along sunken logs. Flies and small worms work too. Big Rainbows in George trolling 20-25 ft deep, or in the shallows early in the morning from the bank or boat. Lots of bank fishing access too.
I know this is not a forum for selling things, but this item is so user specific that I thought I'd try it. I'm selling a never used adjustable boat seat that atteches to any boat bench seat for $40. I'm Mike in Petaluma.
Good job. I Love the Mammoth Lakes!!! My biggest rainbow ever was caught at Lake Mary trolling a pink Tasmanian Devil at 25 ft. It was 28 inches and 7 3/4 pounds. This was a few years ago. George, Mammie, and Twin hold monster fish too.
Did you find them by sight, or did you just know where to look? I have trouble finding them at Spring.
I was there 3 weeks ago and caught some huge rainbows from the canal in Cassel. There is a PGE campground there too. also Baum Lake and the spillway next to the hatchery can be good. At the hatchery in the far left front tank were the biggest rainbows I've ever seen. Must have been 15-20 ponnders nearly 3 ft long. just seeing them is a thrill. Probably their brood stock.
I've always had better luck and bigger fish at Gull Lake. Flashers with Night Crawler and casting an unweighted crawler at rising or sighted fish has worked for me. For a treat, fish Lake Mammie in Mammoth. From the bank or float tube/kayak. Sight fishing with crystal clear shallow water.
I've seen posts about fishing for stripers on the petaluma river. Does anyone know how safe the fish are to eat. Petaluma is not really a river, but a tidal area with runoff from the streets flowing into the river. Safe to eat the fish??
What about eating Stripers out of the Petaluma River??? Dirty tidal water with rain gutters flowing into it bringing whatever is in the streets. I've always felt like they should not be eaten, but maybe I am wrong. Doe's anyone know the mercury levels of the meat in our river stripers?
I'd prefer a radio controlled boat with a transducer on it to locate fish from shore or boat without spooking them. Also locate bottom structure or drop offs to fish around.
I like sinking Rapalas rainbow or white with black top. There is a lot of baitfish in that lake so matching it is always an advantage. If you see a fish feeding, cast a night crawler with no weight in its vacinity. Boat, raft, kayak, or float tube will get you out to them. Early morning shoreline i often good from the bank or boat.
