Check out "Crappie Fishing Mississippi" Facebook group. They cove the Big4, Enid, Arkabutla, Sardis and Grenada. A lot of good and daily info.
Good luck!
Ditto but from what I have read on that forum; it can get rowdy. Don't know why it has to be that way. I live in Alabama but originally from MS but have property not far where we are building a house. Was planning on doing some fishing at the spillway but think I will pass. Soe dude last week unloaded his boat and proceeded to just go crazy between all the boats. A few people tried to tell him to be respectful but he didn't care. Even when he was putting in his boat he jumped in line. When he pulled out, same thing. Someone told him again to be respectful and he pulled hi gun, held it to the guys head...thank goodness popo showed up quickly and arrested him.
I don't think the main lake is this way.
I probably will not take my boat but may try bank fishing. MS is an open carry state, if you are resident so as usual, my gun will be strapped on.
Don't take this as a bad thing about MS, just that spot.
Tight lines!
My brother in law just left there today. Caught a 5lb bass, some on the 2-3lb range, a nice cat and some crappie.
I am going over there middle of March and wet my line.
Check out the Facebook Group, "Crappie Fishing Mississippi". Lots of info on Grenada and other crappie fishing hot spots. I have been doing a lot of research as we are planning a trip up there end of April. Hopefully the lake will be back to or close to full pool.
Check out the Facebook group, "Fishing at Lewis Smith Lake". A lot of folks posting big crappie and easy limits, of course good luck on them letting you know where they are....lol
Welcome to the forum.
I am new to the crappie scene myself. Wife and I came over and stayed a couple of days at a campground right on the river late last summer. We were just catfishing on noodles and bass fishing. The Warrior and Tombigbee take on an erie karma when the sun goes down, especially when you hear the hum of the diesels on a big barge coming behind you or meeting one.
Ditto to the guy that recommended "Richard Gene the Fishing Machine". Though he fishes primarily in N Alabama, his advice and techniques would work anywhere...anywhere you find them..lol
We fish Lay and Mitchell over here and are trying to find the elusive crappie but just getting started so no luck yet.
If there is a local tackle shop there, as others have said, start there. I am sure they can point you in a general direction. A lot of the jigs "Gene" uses come from Walmart except for the Z-Man plastics. Z-Man are great baits as they last longer because of the material but others are comparable but at a lower price point.
Keep us updated, looking forward to hearing about your great successes.
Remember, they call it fishing not catching for a reason!

I’m in Demopolis,Al, was asking about when and where are the best spots and time to get those crappies. I moved away just shortly after H.S. Was always going crappie fishing with dad and remember how much fun it was! I have moved back and want to get those crappies. Probably will be fishing from my kayak. Any suggestions?
I use that knot pretty much exclusively. Easy to tie, even in the boat. Be sure you wet the knot before cinching it up.
Let me know how you do at Turkey Creek. I heard Little Black Creek lake at the park near Lumberton is decent. 640 acres.
I have acreage not far from there but live in AL right now. My brother in law has fished there and says no luck. He don't have much paso not sure if it is the lake or him. Th few times I have been on the lake it looked like it had a good mix of structure that would be perfect for good cover for fish. When I get my house built I will be giving it a try. I heard Clacko and Archusa were also tough fisheries but I don't have any first han knowledge. Let us know if you have any luck.
I am sure summer weekends would be tough with Skiers, weekdays probably better.
I live just south of Birmingham. Fishing Lay and Mitchell. I have 45 acres between Meridian and Newton, just south if I-20. Building a barndaminium there and hope to be moved in by this time next year. Looking forward to fishing the Rez. I also have access to Lake Eddins which is about 39 minutes from my place. Wife caught her personal best bass, 3.5lbs there.
I have had decent luck around Windcreek State Park. Might be better when waterlevel is back to normal. I am sure there are other places on your end of Martin. Might ask around at local tackle stores for info.
Your might look at the Ross Barnett group on Facebook. There are quite a few folks that post on there. I have been seeing a lot of people fishing below spillway catching limits of nice crappie.
I can say it is definitely bad luck for me if I don't take wife. Forget what happens on boat..she would kill me when I got home.
Definitely good luck to take the lady fishing!
I really like taking her. She ties her on baits, hooks, no problem handling the fish or cleaning them. Just got to train a little better on backing trailer down the ramp.
Her CDL expired; maybe that is the issue...lol
This tape method helped me a lot. I could never cast a baitcaster. This helped me gain confidence. When I bird nested, easy to pick out of 20-30 yards versus a spool of 160 yards plus.
Also, I use cheap mono as backing then appropriate braid then a leader of fluorocarbon.
I am no expert but can say this got me over the hump. Overhand casting is still a challenge for me working on it.
The newer reels are much better for beginners than my old Ambassador 5000c.
I now own 9 baitcaster setups along with a few spinning reels. Never would have thought the need for different reel/rod setups until I got into fishing again.
Good luck!

I have mostly used Spin Cast reels. I have a few Zebco reels too. I got a Bait Cast rod and reel combo for my birthday and I’m excited to try it out soon.Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to best use a bait cast or anything positive or negative to say about any of the reel types I’ve talked about today?
Wife and I have got "skunked" 4 days in a row. She has othe hobbies as do I but fishing is something we both enjoy and can do together...fishing or catching...it's all good...catching is better though...lol...Roll Tide!
