I have mostly used Spin Cast reels. I have a few Zebco reels too. I got a Bait Cast rod and reel combo for my birthday and I’m excited to try it out soon. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to best use a bait cast or anything positive or negative to say about any of the reel types I’ve talked about today?

It’s all about controlling the outgoing line when casting. The thumb action.

TBA, I think you're confusing reel types. Zebcos are spincast reels, as are all with a pushbutton. Reels with a bail that you flip over to cast are spinning reels. That being said, the most important things to remember with a baitcaster is tuning it to the weight you are throwing, and practicing in the back yard till you get a feel for it. There are many YouTube videos explaining how to tune your reel to get started, and remember that your thumb on the spool is your ultimate control. Good luck and get to practicing.

THUMBS up 👍 to what Fred said!
A bait caster needs to be “tuned” to each different bait weights & changing 🌬 wind conditions or else…

My favorite reel is a Zebco Bullet. I just bought a second one during the Black Friday Sale in November.

TB.... a little practice and you'll love your baitcaster. Just don't be like me when you are fishing three from your boat and the guy in the middle is s rookie with no awareness of rod position and use. I just put my rod up for the day (see pic).

With practice that's a 1 min fix, and I had lots of practice when learning how to avoid bird's nest

Cam... I've been casting with a baitcaster for more than 30 years. I promise you the only way that was coming out was with the pair of scissors I used after 15 minutes of trying when I got home. That was the result of another pole stopping my pole in the middle of a max distance cast with a jerkbait. It was ugly! Lol

No kidding there,I've had some slight nest's that took 5-10 minutes to pull out,I wouldn't even attempt to save the one pictured there.Heres a suggestion to new users of baitcast reels-bring scissors and a refill spool of line with you.and I agree with others out here, tune to the weight your casting and once you start casting, short casts to begin with adding distance with each consecutive cast and never completely remove your thumb from the spool during casts.

I'll have to agree that sometimes scissors ✂️ are the only solution, like you I used baitcast exclusively for 40+ years and still get backlash now and again. I did start using spinning reels when I began crappie fishing a few years ago 😅
