Spoon Bill are on fire right now on the neosho river in Miami Oklahoma

Hello 67. Snagging spoonbill is way too much work. To use your phrase the're on fire anywhere on the Arkansas or Neosho rivers where the floodgates are open. I watched some snaggers today below Ft Gibson dam. That's the last dam on the Neosho before it runs into the Arkansas. Never found a way to cook those fish that I enjoyed. Good luck & tight lines.

About a week ago, my wife came home from work coughing, short of breath and very tired. She went to the doctor and had a chest x-ray, two steroid shots and antibiotic. The x-ray showed a possible virus in the lung. She tested negative for Covid. A few days later, I got it. She seems to be improving but missed a week's worth of work.

The doctor wasn't sure what this is/was. The coughing is terrible. My ribs and back are sore. I'm sleeping mostly in a recliner.

If any of you have these symptoms and have breathing or respiratory issues separate from this virus. I would strongly urge you to get to a doctor. This is nothing to ignore. Just my two cents.

Don't take this ailment lightly. My son in law buried his 34 year old son yesterday. He died of a respiratory infection in Austin, TX. I guess I'm spooky but I too have had a cough for several days. Dr appointment tomorrow. Hope you & your wife recover soon

I'd check with dnr, they don't have lifetime license for game..enjoy your lifetime fishing license..I got mine last year too. Happy fishing

Too bad about not having lifetime hunting license in your state. I enjoy hunting & I hunt just about everything in our state. It's nice to never give a thought to buying deer or turkey tags or a fishing license. I do buy federal duck stamp & now that Oklahoma has a bear season I must buy that tag. Lifetime combination license keep going up & are now around $800 which is still a great bargain. Now days when a resident turns 65 they can get the lifetime combo license for free. Tight lines

We have nothing in California, except I get a reduced fee for a disabled vet.
TEXAS, HOWEVER, offers ANY disabled Vet a free Combo Hunt/Fish license. Just have to be 50% or greater service connected disability. You don't even have to be a resident of Texas.

Hi Saw. I bought my Oklahoma lifetime combo fishing & hunting license well over 35 years ago for $350. It has been a tremendous bargain. When my wife turned 65 she received a free lifetime hunting & fishing license from the state. Yes, it's nice to get something back after years of paying but a fishing license was never expensive & was worth every cent. I do enjoy fishing in Texas as I don't need a license but I'm sure a lot of senior Texan's enjoy fishing in Oklahoma for the same reason. More states should have reciprocal agreements like Oklahoma & Texas. Take care brother!

I feel winter cats taste much better than summer caught fish. I fish the area I mentioned with jug lines & have done well for many years. I usually throw the channel cat back in & only keep the blues up to 10 or 12 lbs. Further up the river on past Carters landing are some massive clifts & deep water. Check that area for big flathead. That area is between Carters landing & Horseshoe Bend if you're looking at a map. Good luck & tight lines.

The True Story of Chernobyl, a Mystery

Since there have been several new members over the past few years, I suggest that you might want to go back and read this story I posted about three years ago. The full title is The True Story of Chernobyl, which is, up until now the worst nuclear accident by far.
To find this story, you will have to go to SEARCH, then type in ‘The True Story of Chernobyl’! Now do not be alarmed, or assume this is a true story, it is not.
My hometown newspaper editor was completely confused, and worried about his readers being led down the primrose path, with my story. You be the judge, I would like to hear your response to this farse. Just Sayin…RJS

Hi Robert. My son visited Chernobyl which has become a big tourist attraction a couple years ago. You guessed it, all I got was a Chernobyl hat.

I am from Tahlequah looking for a good place to go catch winter catfish

If you have a boat you might try the area north of the hwy 82 bridge ( l'm talking lake Tenkiller) up to Carters landing. I have friends been catching nice blues along that west shoreline which is fairly deep. I was out at Sizemore landing earlier this week, early morning, & some brave pilgram had his boat backed up to the ramp. It was 9 degrees out with the water temp in the low 40's. Too cold for my boat. If you're a shoreline fisherman try the area below ft Gibson dam, either side. Good luck to you.

A few more oldies 😂

Let me know if anyone knows what the last one is, and has anyone ever used a light like the last one in the picture of the lights?

I'm familiar with all your oldie's except maybe the last one. My grandpa rolled his own with Prince Albert. I came home from the army Christmas of 1969 & he was smoking ready mades, Camel's. The drill was fairly common. The ice tongs were antiques & the hand sythe was something no one used anymore. The last photo looks to be a speaker like on our school building. We're getting mighty long in the tooth to remember this stuff. I still have a matchbox in my shop. I used carbide head lamps til I went in the army. Don't know what happened to them.

Still hoverin around 30*. Just right for snow.

Hi Steve. Don't want any of your weather. We had our 1st snow of the 23-24 winter this past Friday, not really a measurable amount. It was 43 degrees today. I've got 6 rick's of seasoned split hickory firewood ready for the fireplace if it gets colder. The catfish & crappie are biting good at the lake & pilgrams are catching good stripers below the dam but I'll wait for warmer weather. Take care brother!

I pay 1.50 for about 4 pages most times.

It was on January 1st 1963 when I took over the newspaper route in town. I had around 40 customers for morning delivery & maybe 50 for evening delivery. The price for a month's subscription was raised to $1.55. I had several customers quit because that was too high a price. A single paper, morning or evening edition, cost 5 cents. I made 2 cents per paper. I stayed on that route for a full year. I learned responsibility but didn't get rich. Times have changed.

Hello my name is Don and I live around the checotah area. I primarily fish the Arkansas River from Spanaird creek down to Kerr lake and dam mostly from the bank. I'm thinking about heading out to Oologah lake, any advise on where to get shad and bank fish?

Hello Outlaw. Welcome to the forum. Exit 264B is my favorite get off on interstate 40. Checotah OK & highway 69 which is my way home. Glad to have you on the forum. You're right close to lake Eufaula which has a good population of catfish. Kerr is also loaded with blue's & flathead. I fish Tenkiller & have good luck with my juglines. It's ony about 1o miles from my house to the boat ramp at Pettite bay. I've fished Oologah & it has some good catfish also. Just be careful on the Jake when the wind gets up. Ft Gibson lake may be the best catfish lake around. It's always easy to catch a mess of catfish on Gibson. I picked up on your name ndnoutlaw good name.

When I was looking for cheaper quality reel I read n interesting article on bearings.
I also was looking at bearing count.
The article stressed the quality of the bearings was more important than the number.

Looks like you hit on both qualities on these reels.👍🎣

Hello Griz. You hit on an interesting subject. Number of bearings in a reel. A couple years ago I was speaking with a major reel manufacturer representative & he stated that he would rather have 4 good bearings in a reel than 6 just so-so bearings. I totally agree.
There is a guy in Tulsa, a minister, who overhauls reels for use in distance casting contest. He turns an ambassador 7000 into a work of art. After he's polished & honed plus machined spacers he replaces the bearings with aircraft instrument grade bearings. Those bearings cost well over $100 each. It can cost $1000 or more for customizing a reel. I don't have that kind of money to spend on a fishing reel but I'm not trying to see how far I can cast. Tight lines.

I bought some different budget reels from Amazon looking for sleepers, high bearing counts and stellar reviews being the focus...

I got a Cadence Lux 2000 last year to go with a higher end Cadence pole, it's a high tech pole that feels like something costing hundreds more. The Lux reel has 9+ 1 bearings and an off the chart 36lb drag system...these are Stella smooth, no exaggeration for under $60

I went ahead and tried the even higher end Primo that has 12+ 1 bearings that is $90 or so and it is incredible for the money, it actually would be incredible for hundreds more.

I've had Japanese version Stella reels that listed at $800+, I'm telling you I cannot tell the difference, they feel unbelievably smooth in all regards, including the way the bail snaps when you cast.
