Inlet at Huntington Lake for Kokanee in October.
I’ll take a stab, super rare bull trout, they get really big.
Not to far from the Yuba River just a short drive.
I like my In Reach mini the battery life is good, and the ability to send messages are good, the monthly service is pretty cheap and you only pay month to month.
Are the rainbows in that lake pellet eaters? Maybe it’s a stock farm problem.
To funny I’ve been in an old school funk band that plays Carlsbad, Oceanside areas etc. for over 13 years I’m sure we have crossed paths.
I was working above the lagoon on the east side of I-5 loads of bait fish jumping plus the water is warming up. Get on it while you can!
Dry flys should be good, in a worse case you can use a dropper hopper set up. Hopefully not to many thunder showers at higher elevations increasing flow.
Wow that rainbow is a HOG!!
Once it heats up they stop stocking trout at local lakes, Cuyamaca used to be stocked year around. There is a mystic creek what I can gather near Mt. Laguna that has small trout, the hike is tricky to get down and back out. There is a few post on U Tub under SanDiego trout fishing.
Fixorfish I love hopper dropper combo, it works great and it’s the best of both worlds! Great suggestion on the ballon indicator.
Fish4fun is spot on, euro nymphing is basically a tight line to the bottom fly vs indactor (AKA a bobber) yep i said it a bobber. It’s great for casting and when you can’t or do not want a tight line for example when you need to mend in a stream, it’s rather easy to cast. Usually it is set up so the bottom fly is just clear of hitting the bottom a bit, with an occasional bump on a rock in a stream. If your doing fine without an indicator or multi-clolor line to see strikes your doing great! I think your technic would be great on a hot day when the fish might be 20ft down from a boat, you would need a long leader to reach the fish.
Cheers!
Even in the middle on summer the water in that lake is always cold.
