Where do I fish for trout (this summer) near San Diego...Lake Cuyamaca has decided to not stock trout until winter.
Big Bear Lake is a long drive, anybody know of a closer lake, stream, that is stocked with trout?

Been a long time, but I used to catch trout with my kids at Miramar Lake. No idea if that's even possible now, but might be worth looking into.

Welcome to the stage Beardo. I'm not a Trout guy, but can't you go to the state website and see if any other lakes near you are stocked with Trout?

Thanks, but I think like all lakes in San Diego vicinity, it's too hot in the summer & now lakes like Cuyamaca aren't stocking due to high gas costs which has raised the cost of stock fish
Even Lake Gregory (by Lake Arrowhead) isn't stocking during the summer.
Guess I'll just head up to Big Bear once in a while

Thanks for the suggestion, but their site seems confusing at best.
If there's a "secret" Lake or river, it's probably gonna remain just that in this area

I lived down there for about 25 years and after a couple of years I finally gave up on fresh water fishing and turned to the salt. Plenty of places to fish in the ocean, lot of them productive.

Yep, I get it, I used to be an avid ocean fisherman but after a really bad car accident (hit & run; I was at a red light &some idiot on drugs hit me going 60 mph) I was left with really bad equilibrium problems for years...now I don't head out on ocean trips at all.
So,now I just fish for trout. Rough stuff as I used to live on a boat in the L.A. harbor. I'll probably just head up to Big Bear once in a while.

Once it heats up they stop stocking trout at local lakes, Cuyamaca used to be stocked year around. There is a mystic creek what I can gather near Mt. Laguna that has small trout, the hike is tricky to get down and back out. There is a few post on U Tub under SanDiego trout fishing.
