Since you don't have a boat might want to try suburban ponds in Walker. Look on google maps & fishbrain. Ran into a guy at Wal-Mart in Walker that sez he caught 3 lb. bass about a mile from Wal Mart (3 ponds). This is not too hard to figure out. At least this will give you a start. I also heard from church usher in French Settlement there is a place on Hwy.444. Again, look on your maps. Just don't walk on people's property.

I live in Denham and usually fish in a pond for black crappie (sac a lait). Look on your goggle maps or go to fishbrain. This usually helps.

I live 35 miles from you in Livingston Parish. What am I looking at here? Is that speckled trout (school trout)? Where did you fish and what did you use for bait? The pic is not particularly clear. Need more information. Anyway, welcome to the site. My friend lives near you in Hammond but is a fly fisherman. Send more pics & information next time.

Your best bet is to go to fishbrain. This might give you some ideas. You did not say whether you are a shore fisherman or a boat angler.

I am new to the area. Have a 19ft Sea Fox looking for areas to fish in the Hammond, Denham Springs, Ponchatoula, Manchac area.

If you live in Denham Springs there are several ponds for bass. You would not even need a boat. You can fish on shore.

Welcome to the site I live 18 miles from you. I have not caught a black crappie since February/March. Waiting for cooler weather. I am a volunteer fishing instructor (for kids) for Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries. I usually buy my crappie lures at Bass Pro on sale since it is 5 miles from my house. I understand we have a Catholic mission church there in Livingston which I have never visited. I hope to sing there one day since I am in the choir also. Good luck with your endeavors.

I believe bass have a 18 minute memory on the same lure. I usually leave for 1/2 hour and go back with the same lure. Hopefully she has not moved. You can always change to a different bait and cast in the same area. Yes, the larger female bass are smarter than the dink male bass. That is why they are so hard to catch. They did not get that size being dumb.

I passed by Ville Platte and wondered how the fishing was there. To catch bluegill use a chartreuse baby shad with pepper or a tan Rebel crickethopper. Can't help you with white crappie this time of year. It is too hot. Let me know of your success fishing in this area during the summer. I might pass by on my way to Lafayette or Alexandria. Are there lots of grass mats there during the summer extending out?

For the wacky rig I use a weed guard with a 2/0 finesse needle point hook with the BP 5" Stick-O or Yum Dinger. I see from the pic that you used the colors "Black & Blue". Green pumpkin works good also even in the dark. Overall, I find the bass bites to be much bigger on the wacky rig. When I first cast it out, I keep my line tight on the drop. It is smart of you to use an O ring. It helps save your worms. Practice on this to get your technique down. Notice how the worm drops on the fall.

I am less than 20 minutes away. I volunteered to work a Church fishing rodeo Saturday morning in Denham Springs for LDWF, mostly for kids. I caught 4 bass yesterday on the baby shad & wacky rig Senko. That was all on shore without a boat motor.

New to fishing and a new boat owner and fishing in south Louisiana and look for any suggestion to help catch crappies.

Crappie season in South Louisiana is usually February to March. I use chartreuse baby shad with pepper or chartreuse 2 tone rooster tails on a light spinning combo. I would wait until the cooler weather sets in. You can concentrate now on bass at nightfall to be productive.

My choice would be Ott Defoe. He has a great subject knowledge of bass and is genuinely down to earth. Talked to him at Bass Pro and picked up some pointers. Besides a great bass fisherman, he is a humble guy. Just to be in the boat with him would be a great thrill.

My hands broke out this past season after fishing a body of water, was just wondering if this is why you wear them?

The fish can smell the scent on your hands. After catching many bass you have minor sores and cuts on your fingers. Gloves help to prevent the bass from slipping also the first protection from being hooked from a crankbait. Just look what the tourney pros do.

Try a Shimano SLX 150 HG which runs $99. It is very smooth and I have had no backlashes. Birdnests are very frustrating to a beginner. There is a learning curve to use a baitcaster. This will help. You can pair it up with a St. Croix Bass X rod. Good luck on your search. This combo should last you a long time & you should not have to upgrade as fast.

I was wondering what your thoughts on the best starter baitcaster is, my budget is about 100ish dollars. I've been using spinning reels forever and want to expand my collection so I can use different lures and catch different fish. Thanks in advance.
