Went out at sunrise before it gets hot, pond was like glass and nice and cool. 16 in all and a couple of nice ones.
Nice looking fish. I am in Florida with my Dad. He is in the hospital so he won't be able to go this trip. I am going to try to go one time before I go back to San Diego.
Has anyone fished the Upper or Lower Otay Lakes in San Diego for bluegill this year? I would like to go fly fishing there. Thanks
Thank you. I will definitely try that spot. Can you launch a small boat there?
Thanks. I am 63 and I believe I was born with a fishing rod in my hand. I had the pleasure of going back to Florida this week for my Spring break and went fishing with my 87 year old Father. We had a blast as usual.
I moved to San Diego from Florida in 2018. I have enjoyed catching some bass and rainbow trout. However, I would love to find a place to fly fish for bluegill with popping bugs. That is a big thing in Florida and I enjoyed it with my Dad. I am looking for some place around San Diego to go or anywhere within a couple of hours. Suggestions appreciated.
My favorite go to lure of all time. I have been fishing them for over 50 years. The #7 is my favorite size also.
What rivers are near San Diego besides the San Diego River? Within an hour or two driving. Thanks
Praying for your surgery and a full recovery. God bless.
I have a thin piece of pvc pipe that I made a rod holder with and I put my rod in it and put my reel in my back pack. I do this when I ride my bike or a bus.
My Dad and I were fishing for bluegills in Florida using popping bugs. Our go to colors were white, chartreuse, and yellow. When I went to replenish our stock, I saw a couple of blue ones. When I tied the blue one on my Dad laughed. After bringing in a couple of nice bluegill from the back of the boat that passed him by, he asked if I had anymore blue ones. Glad I had another for him. Great memories.
Hi Aaron, if you have time on the way down or the way back, I would suggest stopping in a little town in North Florida called Port St. Joe. It is in Gulf County. Port St. Joe has a bay that feeds from the Gulf of Mexico. You could launch your Kajak in the bay and catch some nice reds, flounder, speckled trout and many other species. About 5 minutes from the bay is a fresh water creek called Depot Creek. It is black water and full of crappie, bluegill, shellcracker, catfish and Bass. It feeds into a big lake called Lake Wimico. I grew up in Port St. Joe and my Dad, sister and her family still live there. I live in San Diego now but every time I go back home my Dad and I go fishing there. You will love the little town and people there.
Split rings. I replaced all of the ones on my Dad's Bass lures along with the treble hooks back in October 2018 when hurricane Michael hit. He lives near the gulf and had 7 feet of saltwater come into his home. Someone else mentioned using small needle nose pliers. That is what I used. It made the job easier. Good luck.
