What’s your favorite fly that makes literally no sense but fish can’t seem to stay away from it?

Many years ago(like 40 or so) we fished a catch and release area on the Little Lehigh. This place saw tons of pressure, the trout literally had PhD’s. I saw a guy throw a cigarette butt in a run and a trout sucked it in. I went home, asked a smoker buddy for his butts and tied up a few. They worked really well for a short while.

I can’t really say, but I had a dream last night that I caught a raccoon on a royal coachman. Strange dream, I know.
I fly fish a lot for trout and smallmouth bass. They both love a greenish Pistol Pete.

My Dad and I were fishing for bluegills in Florida using popping bugs. Our go to colors were white, chartreuse, and yellow. When I went to replenish our stock, I saw a couple of blue ones. When I tied the blue one on my Dad laughed. After bringing in a couple of nice bluegill from the back of the boat that passed him by, he asked if I had anymore blue ones. Glad I had another for him. Great memories.
My favorite fly is a dead one.
Parachute Adams and Wooly Bugger.

My all time favorite dry fly is the Renegade. Easy to see under dull conditions, cutthroat trout love it, and easy to tie. It also floats longer than other flies.
My favorite is a Usual. It works in many sizes, and is easy to tie. I just use the horseshoe rabbit's foot with nothing else. It was created by a man I knew years ago. He used pink under the rabbit hair. I tie it from #14 to #20. You can add color with a marker if you like. Sorry, I don't have pictures, my fly stuff is in the cold North. But try this, it will work!!!
Any lure I use that catches fish.
By far my favorite and most productive is a Renegade followed by Copper John.

I can't speak to what makes NO sense, but; if you want to catch panfish and bass, early and late, when they're feeding off the surface, I've done well/ the tiniest cork popper on the flyrod. (I don't know if the color makes much difference, but, I'd look for some that look like insects you'll see swimming in the water.)
