Hi I am new here..I would like to get updates on the salmon run in the Per Marquette River and what the fisherman is catching
on Hamlin Lake in Ludington MI area. Thank you

Well welcome aboard! Haven't heard anything about the Pere Marquette. But the fish are in at Frankfort, Betsie River. They are catching some off the Breakwall at night with Glow Spoons. Supposedly 1-3 am. is prime time. The Boardman River in TC should have some fish in, but I don't think the run is in full swing there yet.

I have heard that if you put scent in the surface of a uv lure it will negate the uv properties of the lure so it is best just to put it on the end. have you heard that as well?

I was referring to to True Glow In The Dark Lures. I know for a fact that Scents do not affect the Glow Quality of those types of lures, at least not Pure Anise Oil. I've never really used UV Glow Lures that much. So, I really can't tell you if that's true or not. It seems to make sense though, as Scents are often Oil Based, both Liquid and Gel types. They may well block the UV Light from penetrating to the lure. Perhaps, a water based scent would not cause that problem. The trouble with a water based scent is, it washes off the lure after several casts, and has to be reapplied more often. I have a UV Light, I'll have to dig out one of the very few UV Glow Lures I do have, and run a test on them to see if that is true. I'll try to get back to you on that, if I can find them among the several thousand lures I have. Have not seen them for awhile. Thanks for the question, and for giving me something to do while I not out fishing. Good luck to you, and have fun fishing.

ive caught a few sliders up in the north fla lakes,, usualy they are snagged. Best reptilian catch was a five foot gator on a top water frog.......:)

I think when I saw it was a Gator, that thing would become the new owner of said lure. I'd just have to go out and buy a new one. Cheaper than a prosthetic arm, I reckon!

Do they really work and if so, what size, colors, ect are the best. I would think if they go down deep, they wouldn't glow anyway!!! Please advise!! Fact or Fiction??? LOL

Yes they work. A True Glow Lure produces it own glow, so depth really doesn't affect it. A UV Glow Lure does not. It depends on UV Light to produce the glow effect. But UV Light can penetrate to pretty good depths, during the day, in clear water. The True Glow Lure needs to have it's glow replenished periodically, with a bright light, to produce it's best glow potential. Some of the newer Glow Paints will last quite a long time between refreshment "light ups". I would also recommend some sort of Human Oder Hiding Scent on the lure after handling the lure on each light replenishment. I've found Pure Anise Oil works well for that when casting at night for Chinook Salmon. Both from shore, and from a boat, off the mouths of rivers and creeks the Salmon will run up in the fall. I have had great results using 3/4 oz. KO Wobblers when casting at night. Either in the Factory Glow Finish, or with Witchcraft Glow Tape, cut to the shape of the lure applied. Have fun, and Good Luck!!

First off, where will you be staying near the Betsie River? Are you going to have access to a good sized boat, or strictly fishing from shore? I have caught a good number of Kings off Frankfort in September and early October, fishing mainly from the North break wall at the mouth of the Betsie. Night fishing has always worked best for me using KO Wobbler 3/4oz glow in the dark spoons on medium heavy bait casting out fits. Feel free to contact me at wphunterjd@gmail.com if you would care to discuss this further.

Caught a spawning female. Nothing better than snakehead caviar. A breakfast of home made whole wheat bagel with cream cheese, onions and snakehead caviar.

Does it require any special preparation to turn it into table fare? Or, can/do you eat it straight from the fish?

3-Pound Slab Breaks Lake Hartwell Crappie Record
By GON Staff on March 8, 2022

A Lake Hartwell black crappie just broke a record that has stood for almost 25 years. Jimmy Burns, of Fair Play, S.C., was fishing off a dock on March 2 with his friend Neal Boggs when he caught the new record slab. The black crappie was certified at 3-lbs., 1.76-ozs.

On certified digital scales at the Food Lion in Pendleton, S.C., Jimmy’s crappie weighed 3.11 pounds, which converts to 3-lbs., 1.76-ozs. The previous black crappie record for Lake Hartwell was a 2-lb., 14-oz. fish caught May 5, 1996 by Rebecca Crittendon. The white crappie record for Hartwell is a 4-lb., 4-oz. slab caught by Charles McCullough in 1968 not long after Hartwell was impounded.

South Carolina fisheries biologist William Wood confirmed the species of Jimmy’s fish as a black crappie. The definitive way to tell a black crappie from a white is to look at the dorsal fin, which runs across the top of the fish and has webbed spines with a soft fan connecting them. White crappie have five to six spines, while black crappie have seven to eight spines.

As a point of fact, there are brown bears in New York. Not the species that are in the Pacific North West (Alaska ect.) but a brown color phase of the Black Bear.

Once caught a Crappie that was attached to a rod, reel, and sliding bobber. This was from shore at Pymatuning Res. on the Oh./Pa. boarder line, back in the 1980s.

Hey guys! So I moved back to my old neighborhood and there is beautiful lake behind my house. I tried fishing there a couple of times but nothing big enough to bite. I see birds, turtles, and the occasional gator, but no fish. I was wondering if it’s ok/possible to introduce native fish to lake. Messing up the ecosystem is a big no no, but if they are native fish it should be ok right?

If it's public water probably not. If it's private with no way for fish to migrate, it might be legal. Still best to check with fish and game agency in your state.

I have caught smallmouth in winter months on very large deep water lakes trolling paddle tail swim baits in 40 to 60 foot depths. My personal preference is a flicker shad over a soft plastic. When casting, it is usually back to agonizingly slow worked Texas rigged worms. Note: I said "I have caught" That is not an endorsement for winter bass fishing around here. The truth be told I rarely target bass in the winter. When I can get out, I usually go after hold over rainbows with wooly buggers. Right now, mother nature and I are arguing over what "temperate climate " means. Snowing like crazy, 50 plus mph wind gusts and 12 degrees making for below 0 wind chill.

In my experience, that only comes from parking your Harley in the kitchen for winter storage.
