Planning to be on the Bestie River first week in Oct. fishing for Chinook. I don't know the area at all, and know very little about catching king. I have found the Fish Stocking Data from DNR and looks like no King have been released from the bestie river in years past. My brother and our wives think I'm the greatest fisherman in the world and they are coming with me from North Carolina. Pressure is on for me to deliver. Anybody have any advice for success in that area. I'm seeing that Tippy Dam is a possibility, but that's an hours drive. I wouldn't care to go there maybe one day, but would rather fish closer to where we are staying. Thanks
First off, where will you be staying near the Betsie River? Are you going to have access to a good sized boat, or strictly fishing from shore? I have caught a good number of Kings off Frankfort in September and early October, fishing mainly from the North break wall at the mouth of the Betsie. Night fishing has always worked best for me using KO Wobbler 3/4oz glow in the dark spoons on medium heavy bait casting out fits. Feel free to contact me at wphunterjd@gmail.com if you would care to discuss this further.
The best time to fish would be now until Oct. for keepers. But if you are going there on vacation in Oct. you can maybe catch a few to keep. Salmon eggs, jigs, or lures are what I would try. I have watched videos on YouTube of fishing on the Betsie River.
