I recently had a line fail and I failed (lazy) to change until I lost 3 big Striper Schoolies (guessing at least 30 inches). So 3 fish with a 1 oz bucktail and a bright bubblegum tail attached out there now.
Braid was old and hacked up from structures and oysters in SC. And then from the first big Striper rubbing up against the cement pier I fish off here in Brooklyn.
Photo is around average size I’m catching now.
I have caught a couple of northern pike with lures still in their mouths, cannot remember any other fish off hand. I don’t see your pic!
Pic didn't come thru Asente.

Photo? You need to hit the add attachment and wait it out sometimes for the pic to show up.
As for the topic, does wishing i would get my lure back count?
Have lost a few lures now and then and have told buddies if they catch what i lost, dibs on the lure.

I have! A couple years ago I lost a Texas rigged, black and blue rubber crawdad to a large mouth bass. Several casts later using the same setup, I caught him/her again and the and the first lure was hooked securely to its tongue. Only lost the bullet weight.
Yes, in the past I have caught sand bass in lake Texoma that had a spoon hung their mouth. I don't remember any other time or lure.
Just Sayin....RJS
I have caught panfish that were previously released with a hook in their throat that the previous fisherman must have cut the line on, but never a lure.
I worked with a guy that told me about hooking a nice Walleye at Tanner Creek below Bonneville Dam here in Oregon.
I figured ok I’m going to take the same lure up there and hopefully hook an EYE also.
Well I arrived to find a bunch of fishermen and a lady or two elbow to elbow. Few had ice chests and chairs etc.
I was told don’t even think about casting anywhere near here unless you have a rod holder in our line.
So instead of a HOGline it was a Rodholderline. So I hung out awhile to see if any fish were getting caught. Yeah there were. The target wasn’t Walleye though it was Chinook Salmon.
So being the Engineer and Welder I was at that time in my life I got home and welded 2 2” pieces of angle iron to a few feet of rebar as a superduty rod holder much like the idea of what other guys already had in use up there.
Next day I went back to same place. I brought chair and lunch in ice chest. I went and hammered my new rod holder at the eastern end of the rodholderline.
Now I had permission to cast and utilize any rod holder there. So I did.
Well 1/2 hour or so in my rods wiggling like a fish is on.
So I start reeling. Rods near me were moved around a few reeled in to prevent getting tangled. Well someone netted my fat Spring Chinook. Turns out my spin and glow hook had a swivel and a leader on it and another spin and glow with a fish on it.
YES I have hooked fish with gear already in their mouth.

I’ll bet the other fisherman was impressed with your catch! 😉

This is the average Schoolie I’m getting in Wallabout, Brooklyn (Navy Yard area)
No but I keep fishing the small lake that I lost a lure on a pike bite-off in hopes of getting it back. I have had stranger things happen.
In our local lake here that would be a nice 👍 one! We were fishing for Bonito hooked a fish felt odd when I got it up was a bonito with a hook and line in its mouth hooked to a saber rod and penn squider reel.😁 still have it and use it.
I've snagged 2 poles in my lifetime
Twice I have. Once it was my own Weedless hook. The line broke and the fish swam off with about 2” of line and the hook. Fishing the same lake a week later I caught a bass with a weed less hook in the side of his mouth. I feel confident saying it was mine.
striper fishing off Nantucket , we had backing line break so we lost the wire and the fish. two hours later at a different rip one of the guys hooked up. As he was reeling in I said "hold up you've got the other line". We reeled in that rod and it was clear. so I grabbed the wire line and untangled it so he could reel in his fish (a nice 30" keeper) then I realized that I was getting tugged on the wire I was holding. we went below and found an empty reel so we could spool up the wire. when we got it in we recognized the lure as one of ours (special knot) firmly attached to a nice 40" Striper. we released her back to the seas an laughed at catching our own gear 2 miles from where we lost it!
