Look up Clark-Skamania Flyfishers. Good, active group to be associated with. They put on clinics, workshops, etc. for members. Meet out of Vancouver, Wa.

Dang, I wish I could get ethanol-free gas. Too many politicians here in California!

1) YES! Use Seafoam, Sta-bil, Star-tron, or another fuel stabilizer. I use it year-round.
2) YES! If you don't have one, install a water-separating fuel filter!
3) YES! Keep your tanks full!
It's cheap insurance! Anything's better than hoping your battery has enough in it to power your trolling motor all the way back to the dock!

Look up [pure-gas.org] and tap on California. It should help you locate where non ethanol gas is located in your area. Hopefully, somewhere near you, en route, or near your boating destination.
A marina in a marine (i.e. seawater) location should not have the additional federal tax added that a land site or freshwater marina has to charge.

Bottom fishing out of Ilwaco is also a viable option. Several charter outfits to choose from around the lower Columbia - the graveyard of the Pacific. But don't worry, the Coast Guard are always on duty!

A lot of places to fish besides the Columbia River. Have to assume you want to chase salmon. If that be, I suggest you go just over the bridge to Fisherman's Marine & Outdoor on Hayden Meadows Drive and talk to the guys back at the fishing counter. They will have suggestions, and have info on several local fishing guide options.

Any Washingtonians have any knowledge of the best time to take the grandkids up to see the sockeye spawning in Cougar Creek? This is the Cougar Creek off Yale Reservoir of the Lewis River system, since there are several Cougar Creeks around the state.

Rumor has it the pandemic kept some of the foreign ocean fleet off the juvenile fish, so survival is higher than predicted. Always a shame to see 4-pound chinook harvested at sea by ocean trawlers.

Okay, so I know a little about crappie. Fern Ridge Reservoir, due west of Eugene, is full of white crappie. Lots of shoreline access, lots of habitat. Black crappie in the sloughs along the Willamette River, but access is limited. Take the kids and catch a bunch!

As a dyed-in-red-flannel Pacific Northwest native... if you want to fish for spiny-rayed trash fish, go back to where you came from. They make good fertilizer under the rhododendrons. Only edible if you soak them in batter and deep fry 'em.
Now ya'll can all come after me! I know you out there...

"Smallies" are an introduced and invasive species on the west coast. Catch 'em and eat 'em!

Advice for a bank maggot:
If your lure stops in the water - set the hook.
If you feel the slightest bump - set the hook.
Steelhead will pick up a lure and spit it out faster than most uninitiated anglers can react. Be prepared to lose some gear.
Improve your drift fishing by scouting a river during summer low flow. Then come back and fish it during higher flows.
Time your trip to fish during dropping river flows, i.e. after a storm. If it's flooding, fish closer to the bank (in the parking lot!).
Took me three years to catch my first steelhead.
You'll know if you hook one, all hell will break loose!

We used to drop sparkplugs to back off tailgaters. Never even considered using them as a fishing weight.
Best go online for non-lead fishing weight discussion.

@1940. And some of these PNW rivers, especially the Columbia, are notorious for dragging boats under that have a too short anchor line.
In a canoe or kayak, on a lake, a simple grappel or mushroom anchor is fine. Lightweight and easy to set or retrieve.

Another local river story. Fishing winter steelhead in the PNW, we used to fish a hole called the boxspring hole. If you only went there during winter high water you never got to see the set of boxsprings in the bottom of the hole, and probably wondered about the name. It was a real tackle grabber for the unaware!
