Read the NEW SEA ANGLER report for 8/06. We went Friday and found 0 keeper King and a couple silvers, Saturday (today) was not much better, Kings were very small if found and had 4 silvers. Lots of bait and lots of whales.

Hey, even Curry misses an occasional free throw. Don’t worry about the fish finder, sounds like u would have been looking at an empty picture all day and just fished it the same way, by hitting your past hot spots. Sumpin weird going on this winter, big water dump, rec crab season messed up by only using hoops, followed by the pros hangin it up after the New Year. Bet we are gonna need to be creative the rest of the year. Keep on keeping on, my boat is still in winter treatment at Gone Fishin, so still waiting to get back out there. D

The 5 to 7 lb. danforth style anchor with some chain and a 5 or 6 to 1 scope will stick really well on sand or silty-clay. The suggestions about the coating is really cool for both the anchor and the chain rode.

Well looks like I have suffered thru 3 rods that met their demise. I started out with a Cabelas 4 wt. in trying to log practice time I would go to a nearby park. Two casts in …….snap. Send it back and it was replaced. Did the same thing with its replacement. A good friend that has served as an instructor as well as a tech advisor to several rod manufacturers mentioned that baking temp and other variables can cause a bad batch. I waited many months to ask for a replacement. I have caught several trout over 5 lbs on it and it still lives. The third was an 8 wt. I was using in lake Powell. A high speed boat roared past throwing a huge wake. We were fishing a short distance from a tall rock face. The initial hit from the wake knocked me off my feet, and the reflection off the rock wall rolled from beam to beam. When I rolled up against the opposite beam, SNAP went the rod stored on that side.

Keep in mind, whatever ails ya, fishin is the answer. The more serious conditions just require a longer trip.

Good deal. You may have slightly overpaid for it, hahahahahaha. Before u drag it home, you might spin the wheels real good, or pull them off and have the bearings lubed so u know you won’t seize up on the way home. The bird crap will be especially difficult, have see folks get that lightly sand blasted, then spray gets coat over it. Congrats on grabbing a good deal.

Good luck, be careful to keep from getting wrapped up in gear lanyards. If u dump it, the lanyards can make self rescue difficult. Done quite a bit of fresh and salt water fishing from yaks and it is a blast. Go get’em.

What was said about bow and stern ties is really important. Those foam roof top kayak systems work pretty well too. Check your tension often.
As was pointed out by many experienced kayakers, there are two types of people who transport kayaks:
1. The type that have lost a kayak off their trailer or car top
And 2. The kayakers that WILL loose a kayak off their trailer or car top.
Use lots of ties and straps.

Don’t know about this year, but a couple of years ago Ca DFW made a big effort to tell folks if u put scent on any lure or fly, even in the ocean, you are bait fishing and must stick to the rules governing or disallowing bait.

You should be fine with the wash off and leave idea, admittedly, I usually give the rod a good shake to knock off some of the drops. As to the reel, I spray it fairly lightly and don’t immerse it anymore. Also, with spinning reels, especially if they are rear end drag adjustment (like bait runners), I store the reel with the face pointed down a little, if not, straight down. I have had fairly new reels collect moisture and corrode, the rear drags seem to be real (no joke) sensitive.

And get ready to use the classic statement when you hook up with a work call on the phone, “could I get you to hold for while, I have something in the other line.”
