I do it all the time and I have an irrational fear of inhaling too hard and sucking it in my mouth and dying lol. I don’t do it with trebles due to the trio of hooks waiting to impale me

Only with nice new flies that I tied. Sometimes you need a third hand

Unfortunately, yes...I have been known to do that, also knowing how bad an idea it is...

That metal taste gets to me and out it comes. Then if you have had any kind of scent on it that crap is nasty.

Sometimes when I see young people with a lot of piercings in their face, I think they must have opened an old fashioned tackle box and trust their face in it!

-Sorry, I could not help myself.

Putting hooks in your mouth could lead to an unplanned piercing though . . . be careful!

No. Never. Lol. Once I caught a nice bass on a Rebel Bumble Bug lure and as I was removing the hook, it thrashed and drove one of the treble hooks right through the flesh between my thumb and forefinger. I mean, through, as in it went in one side and was sticking out the other...with the fish still hooked. I had to cut off all the hooks and then it took well over an hour to work that thing out of my skin. 😂😂 Hooks are vicious, lol.

I feel you Betts. Last year a Striper flipped on me and treble hook went in my finger and came out just under just short of the nail. Striper still attached to the 2nd treble on the lure wiggling and wanting away from me. No cutters on the yak and paddling wasn't an option. Blood dripping into the occasional shark waters and the yak as well.

So man, up pull that sucker out with the barb in the wrong direction. Wrapped with snot rag, paddled home and put cutters in the yak. Oh the lessons we learn from pain.

And blood in the shark waters! I’m laughing and horrified at the same time. 😂

Also, Bob, just so’s you know...I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing in solidarity and distress with you. I don’t know how you pulled that thing through your finger while sitting in the kayak. A lot of the hour it took me was spent pacing back and forth (and swearing) because along with the pain, it was making me feel kinda panicky. There’s NO way I could’ve done what you did!

About 30k members ago I posted the story about a buddy of mine who went trolling for walleyes (without a net, mind you), using a Rapala Shad Rap and hooked an 11# Northern Pike on the rear treble hook. His only chance to land it was to grab it behind the head. As he was getting close, the fish lunged and snagged Tom’s thumb with the front treble, through the fingerprint and the barb came out through the nail. He got the fish into the boat and all hell broke loose as the fish went nuts when it hit the bottom of the boat. Tom eventually found his filet knife and was able to cut the fish’s head off. He said it looked like a bloodbath as he couldn’t tell where his blood ended and that of the fish began. He then had to motor about 30 minutes downriver to the hospital in Oshkosh where the hook was removed.

Oh i laughed when i got home and settled down, besides laughter is good medicine. The driving force to pull the hook out while out on the yak was i couldn't hold the paddle with the lure dangling from the finger.

You know what? 4 letter words didn't ease the pain either.
