Sounds like you enjoyed Barrett during its heyday Sir. We figured with the last 2 rainy seasons here in So Cal, that water levels would be up, and they were (near top of the dam). While a boat reservation is about $100, we don’t mind paying that since they only allow 25 boats (not including kayaks or float tubes). But at the end of the day, how can I put a price tag on enjoying a day of fishing with my Son! I feel blessed that he enjoys the outdoors as much as I do, and most importantly enjoys sharing it with his Dad. Best wishes to you, and continued success with those Spots.

It’s was a Very Good day. Best for us in nearly 10 years! Barrett Lake is managed by the City of San Diego. Catch and Release, and Barbless hooks. Fishing is by reservation only from May to October, on, Saturday and Sundays only during the season.

Tight Lines

My Son was lucky enough to get an Opening Day reservation for Barrett Lake (San Diego) today! We had a very good day of fishing and catching. My son, his buddy and I caught about 70 LMB! Here’s a couple of pictures.

I’ve fished Yorba Regional a number of times. They have a few LMB, but I wouldn’t say enough to specifically target. They do however get a healthy stocking of Trout from DFG during the season. You may be able to scratch a few with nightcrawlers. You might find better opportunities at Irvine Lake. Best of luck!

We drop Hoop nets, baited with Salmon heads or mackerel. In 50’ - 180’ of water. My days of diving for lobster are behind me…. 🦞

Appreciate the advice Langer! We didn’t keep any fish thus trip. Like an LA District Attorney, we practiced “Catch & Release”... 😬

First, I need to thank Langer for his advice on fishing Havasu. Since this was our first time there, I reached out to him and he generously offered helpful advice. We were only able to fish for a day and a half, but managed to hook and boat a few nice LMB, Smallies, and some Monster Redear (just like Langer said). Lost a few Big LMB, but any time on the water with my son is quality time! Thnx again to Langer for the advice. Next time we’re down in Havasu, I will DM you and hopefully we can fish together. Here’s a couple of pics of the ones that didn’t get away…
