While fishing Skinner yesterday, was coming around this point in about 4-10 feet of water with somewhat of a rocky bottom. Had a nice bass follow my bait all the way to the boat. Couple of minutes later, we look down and see about 10-15 fish swimming rapidly in a very tight circle (maybe 2' across). Then quite a few times anywhere from 4-8 doing the same. These fish were in the 2-5lb range. Did land my big fish of the day there with a drop shot. W

Did they have some baitfish, or Crayfish corralled in their circle Garey? I've seen saltwater fish do that, but on a bigger scale.

Saw no baitfish in the area at all.

I have seen minnows doing what you mention, but nothing in the keeper range.

Was really strange, and I have never seen anything like it. Was fun to watch.

I bet it was especially the size you mention. I used to like watching the minnows feed on the fish scraps i would toss over after cleaning. They are entertaining to watch.

Most likely it is the spawning ritual bass engage in prior to depositing fertilized eggs on a bed.

Those were my thoughts exactly; except we did not see any beds. They did it in various spots around us for a good 40 minutes. They did not leave and didn't seem to be bothered by us. Was quite a site to see. I was just wondering if any of the experienced experts hear have ever witnessed it.

Definitely agree with NoCal Steve. I believe it is related to them spawning. Won't be long till you see them on their beds in the same area.

Wish I could have been able to get a video, but there was too much glare.

Yeah, too bad.
I'd go back to that area and check it out in a few days.

Aren’t you glad we don’t have to do that like the fish do?
