I have been buying fishing licenses in Calif for over 65 years went on today and got mine 84 dollars that’s for two poles no sturgeon or steelhead or any other frills. Seems like last year I only paid just 62 same license. Where does all the money go. In the 76 years I’ve been fishing been checked one tome and have fished all over northern Calif there are less fish now and less places to fish. Other states give senior’s a break on license. Probably general fund gets a good deal of funds and we all know where that money goes

I’ve fished Pinecrest lake on the summer for over70 years first as a kid when my father managed the lodge before it burnt down then with my daughter and now my three grandsons usually have very good success like the inlet the pole sticking up by the dam bouncing off the dam letting the weight take it down slow out past the roped off area by last beach on right hand side then where the channel runs into the dam but would wonder how would drift fishing work and off the bottom or a few feet up probably the right side of the lake where the cabins are lots of fish alongside the bank and pretty deep always seem to have luck trolling there what kind of rig would you use for drifting slide sinker or like drifting in bay for strippers.does anyone know what happened to all the catfish that used to be in the lake over by the inlet I used to take my grandsons when they were young and you could always catch catfish in that area. I just thought drifting would be different and maybe fun. The last three years we have had good success with garlic power bait on right hand side by the cabins this year I’m guessing the inlet will be good with all the water coming in and we also like fly fishing below strawberry lodge but might be to much water coming out of lake. Has anyone fished Kennedy meadows yet probably lot of water also com out any information would be helpful for all we go up for ten days mid July always a great time been doing it now for50 years rent a cabin take the kids to outdoor movies hike to chiming gum lake bear lake both should be real good this year with all the water

If you want something cheap that works great just buy a metal spaghetti strainer they cost about 7 to 10 dollars you can get them at any resturant store scoop the sand and the little crabs stay in I fish at Pacifica and Santa Cruz get plenty of little crabs in no time the best one are the sort of orange ones there the females that have eggs on them If the perch are around there really good also a good bait is the two inch gulp worms. When the Stripers are running on the beaches on the Sping in Pacifica and Manrissa beach just below Capatola or Santa Cruz the female sand crabs are really good but the Spaghetti strainer is the ticket and cheap

They pretty much drain the lake on winter looks like a barren burnt pile of sticks with the snow there will just be a very small amount of water you however can treasure hunt lots of hardware to be found plenty of lures and a few anchors but fishing no have to wait till around April the lake will be full by mid March we have a family cabin but usually don’t go up after mid October

Thanks for the quick response. I will try the worms. Do you use a drop shot rig two hooks and weight at bottom and let it sit? Or do you use a Carolina rig and jig it through the water? My father in law used to use those already made up surf rigs and put out sand crabs using two size 2-4 hooks then threw it out with his big 12ft rod. Caught huge ones back in the 60’s. I use my Llamaglass 9 footer and spin fish. I also have a bigger rod if I want to just put it out with a rod holder. Do you ever use a sand crab and spin with it. I built a great sand crab catcher modeled off a professional one a commercial guy was using down south. Here’s what I did if you want to make it. I bought a paint roller strainer at Walmart for $2 then got a cheap 4’ wooden paint pole and then folded the strainer to 45 degrees and attached it to the pole with zip ties. You can email me and I’ll take pic of it. That way you can stand and rake in the water it really works great for a few dollars. I really appreciate your time in helping me.
Thanks for the quick response. I will try the worm... (show quote)

I have a 12 surf rod which you can really chuk out there my grandkids were using that and catching I was using my 9 ft spinning rod fishing just over the break you have to sort of find where your not getting a cross surf just go strait out no cross current using slider sinker then about four ft leader and number 6 hook single tried bigger hooks but harder to hook that set up sounds good for the sand crabs you want the females crabs there sort of raffish and have a softer shell
