I'm a retired dive master from the S. fla area.
Hog fish is EXCELLENT. Especially with a lobster cream sauce on top.

I still have my spear gun. Some day I may go back to the keys.

I'm land locked now too.
The problem is fresh salt water species gets to us frozen. And more expensive than a good steak.

And in America, you can have and express your opinion. . . depending on what state you live in.

Honestly, no fresh water fish compares to salt water such as sea trout, snook, grouper, snapper of all kinds, etc.
I can't tolerate cat fish or bass, I can barely get perch and walleye down with lots of sauce.

Between this site and youtube you can learn anything and everything about fishing or just life in general.

The only problem with Youtube, is that it is just people's opinion. Everyone has one, and often more than one.

The problem with youtube, is that you get opinions.
The best thing to do, is identify those guys on the lake that are catching. pay attention to what they are doing on YOUR water. More fun than watching tv "experts"

What troll motors you guys like and reccomend for spot locking on say a brush pile and catching crappie. Try not to break the bank.

The only inexpensive spot lock I know of, is also called an anchor.

She got her money's worth.

I believe the Western Gulf has the best, briniest, oysters.
And that Rockefeller guy had a great idea on how to cook them.

And how do you determine the sex of an oyster? They all look female to me.

Don't know anything about the brand you are looking for, but I highly recommend getting one with anchor lock/stop lock. Mine holds to within feet, against wind and current.

And the mapping feature is excellent. I can target a rock pile, river bed, grass bed, contour shape and go to it. I can follow tracks I've been successful on before. It's amazing. Since the lakes I fish are shallow, I use the GPS function more that the fish finder function.

Great article.
My life long BFF invites me to his lake once in a while, and we sit in the pontoon boat, trolling endless rows in the middle of the lake, and catch very little. This winter the water was seriously low, so I made a trip there the look at bottom structure. Acres of flat barren mud! No stumps, trees, grass beds. No shelfs, gullies, rocks.

This year's visit, I'm going to suggest we hit the shore line where there is some shelving and fallen trees.
I think we might do better.

I was shocked at the total lack of weed beds, it's a shallow lake. Shouldn't there be weeds?

Psst. You moved to Fla, there's always a crowd at the good places to go.

Check the area you fish for toxic conditions eg, red tide.
Indian River Lagoon, Okeechobee Naples area are all rated toxic.
