From what I can find out Nickajack is a lake in Tn. I would say that what ever works on lakes close by should be a starting place. Check out YouTube, they have some stuff on there.

Don't know if still available, but Bass Pro shops had a service where you send them the reel and they repair it. I sent them one and it came back like new.

Thanks, I will check them out.

I've had an Abu Garcia bait runner real, for about 30 years it's a cardinal 656BW I need to find someone to clean and or repair it in the Lake City - Gainesville, Fl area. about 25 years ago it got put out in an open shed and I found it a few days ago and it is really stiff. It doesn't reengage when the bait runner is turned on with out messing with the switch, and the anti reverse doesn't work at all. I don't know but I think a good cleaning might cure all it's problems. Wouldn't that be nice?

Not a single one of my spinning reels has mono. Braid braid braid and more braid. For some reason some anglers hate braid. It makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I loaned a reel, to a person (unnamed). The reel had just been respooled with braid, that by the way had never even been wet yet. I got my reel back with brand new Mono line on it. He hated braid!!

Well, Danny, looks like you've got it under control. When Our girls were the age of yours we would have been way ahead to have just gotten lots of colorful boxes. They would just empty out a box and climb in, it was so much fun to watch them. We went through it five more times with the grands, and it was fun every time

I learned with a bait casting reel over 70 years ago. My Mama's cousin gave me a pint bottle of his whisky and his rod and reel. He tucked his whisky under my arm and the rod and reel in my hand and told me what ever I did not to drop his whisky on the sidewalk. It took several days and picking lots of bird nest, but I got it. I can just see a 5 or 6 year old boy toting a bottle of whiskey up and down the street or sitting on the on the curb with it sitting next to him while picking out a bird nest. Where was Mama she would never have allowed that.

Are carp good to eat, if so how do you fix it.

I was fishing with my brother-in-law's Dad and all we had caught were carp, and I was fish hungry and he said he had never eaten carp. He had always given them to the folks in town, they seemed to like them.

So he cleaned the smallest one and we fried it up and I'm here to tell you it was one of the best fish I have ever eaten.

I would guess there are many of us in the boat with you Garry. I do hope your plans for fishing work out. That in itself should relax you.

Right now if i could get my britches on over my knee it would be a plus. I'll let Friday take care of it's self.
I can still walk on it as well as before.

What is really bad is when you know you couldn't pass a road side sobriety test, because your legs don't work right any more, and the last drink with alcohol in it was Oct,31, 2016 and the one before that was the Saturday before Halloween 2012. It sucks when you fall a lot, just wish I could pick the time, and even more the place. For things like that I'd chose the soft dirt over the hard floor every time. Heck fire I might as well have a drink, maybe if I were relaxed it would make it where I could fish Friday, as planed.

Old ain't all it's cracked to be. I didn't plan to live so long. If I had I'd of took better care of it.

Where (location) are you fishing at ? Is there a bait and tackle shop near you. ?

No time fishing is wasted, the same thing goes for time sent hanging out at your local bait and tackle shops, talking and, more importantly, listening to the people who are frequently there. Oh yeah that thing about the too small to count fish, if it is legal to use that type fish as bait, fish of all kinds, and sizes, well most anyway, eat smaller fish. Use your small fish to catch larger fish.

Looks like to me like most of these guys are right, you might invest in a new reel, or have it looked at by someone.

OOPS! After looking at my reels again, they are "6501's "not 6500. The 01 designates left-hand retrieve.

No sweat feathers otherwise are the same and price is the same, and anyway I won't use any thing but a left hand retrieve.
