Hi everybody. I'm new to this I'm just saying hi but also to tell you a story what happened this week in clear lake CA. So I'm in clear lake and I'm fishing for bluegill so that I can catch catfish. I've been fishing this lake for 35 years I've never seen anything like this . Usually the blue gill don't get very big at least not that I have seen in 35 years. Well I land one that' was just monstrous. So I throw it in the live well I blast off down to the local bait shop that's down there in redbud Park it's only bait shop in lower lake. So I bring the fish into the bait shop talk to you owner and I say hey do you have a scale? Guy says "no". That makes sense to me ... It's a bait shop why don't you have a scale? I couldn't get it clear answer but he said" yeah that's a pretty big panfish you got there, but sorry I can't help ya,". He was really short with me. A bait shop a nice one at that. O scale ??? Wtf? Anyways The fish was in distress and I need to get him back into the water quick. I tried calling fish and game and they were not any help either .. they never showed... The scale that I did try to use was giving me fluctuated readings every time I weigh it you know one time it would be this one time would be that. I ended up letting him swim away at the boat launch .So I think this fish was a record weighed over three pounds .....but not confirmed on an official scale or one that was accurate..

Hiked into a pond in the foothills that I hadn’t fished since spring and was pleasantly surprised to see fish jumping everywhere lol mind you bass are 8”-12” but have had a few over 3 and the nephews 5lb PB over the years but the pigs are the bluegill. Ended up with 41 bass and 8 bluegill all C&R. Not bad for 2.5 hrs and a beautiful hike.

What a day!👍🏻

What time is the Best time to go catfishing, some say at night, some say early in the morning. How do catfish move through out the day. I know there are big ones in this pond because they took my whole pole in the water before. They are very slow at taking the bate. Any suggestions?

Welcome in Cory…they are scent feeders so stinkier= better. I agree that they seem more eager and in shallower after dark. Recommend gloves for baiting and unhooking!

[quote=Jaycis2023]Hi All,

I just moved to Waterford California and the Tuolumne River is really right in my backyard (See Attached Photo, the River is about 120 yards as shown in the picture). Does anyone have any input or suggestions on the type of bait and lures to use to fish the Tuolumne River with is a fast-moving, fresh water and very cold river?

Thank You,

In the water 0645ish. Started trolling shortly after clearing the no wake signs, hooked our first keeper at 22 1/2 inches, 4 1/2 lbs within minutes. It was a great start to a fabulous day.
Tally: 31 fish hooked, 27 landed. 10 keeper sized fish brought on board, all but our limits released. Ben caught the prize today at 24 inches and 5 lb 9 oz. The other 2 we kept were 22.5 in, 4 lb 5 oz and 21.5 inch 3 lb 9 oz.
Saw SAW1 out and about. He and the others onboard were killing too. We were back to the launch point and out of the water by 1230.
So I have been on both the Napa and Petaluma Rivers with Ben this week, and Ben has put me on some great fish. Thanks Ben!

Well guys, what a day we had today.
We got to the ramp bout 0630 and launched fairly soon. Got out to the fishin grounds by bout 0655 and had the first fish in the boat before 0700. I think we had 7 boated by 0715.
There for a bit we were hookin up bout every 4 or 5 min.
We started off keepin a couple of 20 inchers and letin a few 18+ and 19 + inchers go.
We continued to catch fish with regularity till bout noon, we had 30 boated by then.
At that time we had to go back to the dock to get my wallet that fell out in the parkin lot on Tuesday. The harbor master found it and called me and I ask if I could pick it up on Thursday.
We weren't ready to quit yet so we went back out and started fishin again bout 1230.
Was a little slow then cause it was kinda slack tide. But as the tide started movin out more the fishin picked up and we caught another 18 fish.
Fished till bout 315 and called it a day. We had 6 keepers in the boat and our total for the day was 48.
Could have made it a 50 fish day but #48 was a 5 pounder and that limited us out so we had to quit.
Ended the day with 3 20 inchers, a 21 a 23 and a 24.
The 24 incher weighed bout 4+ pounds and the 23 incher weighed 5+ pounds. It was a fatty.
COULDN'T HAVE BEEN A MUCH BETTER DAY, I TELL YA WHAT.
We were fishin out there today with Ben and Nook on the river as well.
Don't know what they ended up with but I know they also had a pretty good day.
Just took 1 pic of the 6 fish together back at the ramp on our way out.
Thanks Rich and George for a fabulous day of fishin.
Sorry, One of these days I'll get a workin fish finder and we'll be able to locate the fish better.
Well guys, what a day we had today. br We got to ... (show quote)
