Out of all the setups I use regularly, only one is a casting rod. The rest are all spinning rods. All the pros and most of the people I see online have the exact opposite arsenal. I like spinning reels because they don't backlash, I can lend them to people who don't have baitcaster experience, I can throw lighter weights easier, and I can get a good spinning reel for less than what I pay for an equally good baitcaster. (With that said I have a Daiwa Fuego CT on a 13 Fate Black rod and I love using it as much as my spinning setups, I just don't have an entire lineup to match)

I don't struggle to catch fish (at least not that I know of) or have fun fishing using spinning gear, but I can't help feel like I'm doing it wrong. Is only using spinning gear wrong? Do baitcasters make that big of a difference?

I have about 25 Spinning rigs and only two bait casters
I use my bait caster for Musky
Everything else I use spinning gear
A matter of personal preference and practicality I guess

Went fishing yesterday, been fishing this 10 acre lake 35 years. Rare to catch a fish, none on fish finder. Was in my small Bass Hunter, when got to bank, had to step out in edge of water (about a foot). Got home & my legs were burning, very uncomfortable, could not find anything that stopped burning. (happened last year, just thought I into poison ivy, no where near as bad. Funny things that I think about now- no fish/ typically great lake, water was crystal clear, has always been dingy The bottom if lake in shallow areas looked like copper. Typically lot of Canadian geese & ducks-- none ---have not been there since last time that similar happened. Any ideas

I managed to snag an Avid X for a pretty good deal ($180) and it’s a 6’9” ML Extra fast. I am going to use this rod for dropshotting, ned rigs, and senkos. I need a reel to pair with this rod and I’m dumbfounded by the amount of reels and reel sizes on the market. I would like to keep it under $250 for the reel. What model and size would work for my setup?
You got a great rod there!
I have been using Phlueger Presidents reels with ALL of my St Croix rods

I am a big fan of Minn Kota and this is just about a problem I had.
Boat came factory with 45 lb thrust TM, upgraded to a 80lb thrust and used the quick mount.
Hit a submerged tree or branch.
As you can see in the photo, just a 6"x 4" block is all that is actually bolted to the boat, all the torque and forces are concentrated on that small area. This was a problem, causing 2 cracked welds and 2 cracks in the bow plate.
If you own an aluminum boat with a small area to mount a trolling motor, you may want to do some reinforcement first.
My boat is at the welding shop now getting the cracks repaired and a piece of aluminum plate welded in.
Like I said, Not a problem with Minn Kota, this is my fault, just wanted to share what happened.

Thanks much
I’ll be installing one soon and will certainly pay attention to that
I’ll be putting an Ulterra on the bow of my aluminum Smokercraft Ultimate

Being new to the site, I thought maybe throw one out to people. I have been tying knots for slip bobber fishing. I have them on Ebay. 50 knots and 3.5mm beads. $6.00 free shipping.

How many people use bobber sops for more then just bobbers? I have been using them as scent attractors and pegging worm sinker in different locations on my line. Like have a bullet sinker 6 to 18 inches ahead of a floating worm.

I love slip bobbers

Braid. You can always add a flouro or mono leader if you want later. Plus braid doesn't degrade.

The only problem with braid is that there is no line stretch
All the shock goes to the rod
More rods break when using braid than any other reason
Granted, it is strong and sensitive but I love the action and feel of fluorocarbon

Going to use this one mainly for the side imaging casting and trolling. I’m a humminbird guy, but the Lowrance is tempting.

Humminbird HELIX 12 Mega SI CHIRP GPS G2N

Or

Lowrance ELITE-9 Ti2 Active Imaging 3-N-1

The touch screen is also a plus on the Lowrance.

Any opinions or tips is appreciated!

Before you do anything to this motor!!! Check compression and Spark if this is good then check your fuel delivery.

The motor runs for awhile before it dies out
Obviously there is compression and spark

Another thing
If the squeeze bulb remains hard it probably gonna be good
But if goes soft its an air leak or the bulb itself
That’s more than likely the issue if motor conks out

If it’s the 150XRI it is a fuel injector motor
There are 3 separate fuel filters
The main one is a moisture separator easy to get at and clean
The toughest one is for the fuel injectors
A small screen but needs to be fixed by a service technician because it is tough to get at. Can’t access it unless you go into the main fuel module
I have this motor
1986 model
Still going strong!

Is it fuel injection?
As in the XRI?

I didn't know you could just replace the diaphragm. I think mine is just stretched out to much. It works fine in the morning when it's cold but later when it warms up it looses it's vacuum in the bulb. Especially if I want to go WOT. If I go slower it does better, so I know it's the fuel pump. It's a 2003 60HP 4Stroke Merc.

Is it a fuel injection model?
