Up your line alittle, at least 10 lb and no less than a 1/4 oz lure. Then practice! Use your spinning rod for the lighter stuff! Tight lines!
Several different knots, check out YouTube and find the one that you like best. I like the FG, but the double uni is easier to tie!

Hey, I've caught one of those when I was in my teens, a long long time ago, but seems like just a few days ago. Just can't sometimes recall what I did 5 minutes ago! I didn't know they were called hairtails, to me a ribbonfish.
