We thought we caught a few sheepsheads fishing from shore at Hooper's Island. But the game warden made us throw them back because they were under size drum. When they are small they have the black strips and look just like the sheepshead in FL.

And sheepshead have teeth that distinguish them from a black drum

I’m just an adult girl whose dad taught her to fish before teaching me to walk! And have loved it ever since! I want to learn about the scientific method of the best fishing times but for me the best fishing times are when I’m catching fish!

Welcome to the Stage Megan. I’ve enjoyed watching my son and daughter hunt and fish over the last 30 years. So many life lessons, so many great shared experiences. Good luck to you. There are lots of friendly and knowledgeable people here to advise you on any aspect of fishing you may have questions about.

Hey everyone, I’m new to the group and new to the area. I’m looking for good/great locations for catfishing! Unfortunately I do not have any watercraft’s so I’ll be fishing from the bank.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Grizzly, your right when I was a kid I could go out after school and chores and kill quail, rabbit, squirrels, and droves for food we raised our food hog's, cow's, goat's and chickens but it was a good change for wild meat every now and then, raised all our vegetables and made lard out of hog fat had crackling cornbread (if anyone knows what that is) I didn't have all the new stuff that my schoolmates had new fishing poles, new guns, first time I got to go to my closest friends house 5 miles away and I went by bicycle and found out they had indoor bathroom (we had a outhouse until I was about 8-9 years old) and never told any of my friends.
soon after that we got a bathroom that daddy built on the back porch, still a lot better than going out to the outhouse at night,, but till today I have great memories of my childhood days.
Those days are gone can't hardly find a quail or rabbits now because of Coyote's, bobcat's and python's and never the least the people that are moving in to the wildlife's homes, and then when they find a gator in the pool or a black bear going through the garage looking for something to eat they are so upset WELL just think how the animals feel when a bulldozer comes through and push their home's up in a pile and set fire to it, they don't have insurance to rebuild like we do it's all on them to try to find a new home... it's really sad to see this happening all around me as long as my wife and I are alive their have our small ranch to live out their lives ( NOT FOR SALE ) and most of our surrounding larger farms and ranches feels the same way, so the north east of the county will have lots of wildlife, just have to step up the control of the python's 😂😂🙏
Hope you and everyone has a wonderful weekend, stay safe and God Bless you 🙏 Chuck

Chuck, I loved crackling cornbread. We used to kill 4 hogs a year for our family, rendered lard, cured our own hams, made sausage and bacon in the smokehouse, did all the processing ourselves. We never ate chortling but the neighbors took them and the other pats we didn’t use.

Yes quail and rabbits were plentiful then, but it’s hard to find quail around here anymore.

Good luck with your cattle in python territory. I lost 3 calves to coyotes last year but I better than evened the score to the point that they stay away for now.

Got out at 8am and was 76 deg . By 9:30 it was 82. Ended up with 12 Channel cats and 1 Flat Head. Wasn't thinking and took a banana with me and caught fish.

Good job on the catching Gordon. Channel cat makes for some flavorful eating. Making me wanna get after some myself. Great pics too!

Well guys Ben and I got out on the water bout 0640 and were fishin by 0700.
The first place we wanted to try, some guy on a bicycle had beat us to the spot. So we left that one to him and went further up the slough.
Got to our next sopt and Ben hooks up 4 times and lands 2, both shorts, but not by very much.
I get out of the boat and walk to the other side of the levy and I land one over there, bout the same size as Bens was.
That's all we were able to get there so we went back down river. The bicycle guy was still there and as we went by we made the motions "had he caught anything???" He held up 1 finger and was very happy.
Glad we didn't get there before him . Other wise he would have had a long ride out there and probly not caught anything. Good for him.
Ben and I went on out to the flats and cast around all the places we usually fish but couldn't find any.
Started trollin and we went into 2 different sloughs but couldn't find any that wanted to play. Marked a lot of fish though.
Went back to the flats and caught 2 more trollin up there. Both keepers bout 18 1/2 inches.
Couldn't find any more castin but caught 1 more trollin bout noon. It was 19 1/2. So we have 3 in the livewell.
Trolled several different places after that but never hooked up again.
Called it a day bout 2:45 with just the 3 fish, but happy to have them.
By the time I got home, cleaned the fish , showered and rested a few min it's 7:50pm.
Now it's time for a late dinner.
Just the one pic of the fish before I filleted them.

Nice keepers there Saw. Sounds like a long day (but you could have been at work like I was). Thanks for the pic.

Well Fredfish here's my contraption the conduit will screw onto the end of the pole and just a little electrical tape for good measure. It's got plenty of appendages to snag the Fish God's treasure . Total length of 11 feet and the water depth should be about 7 ish feet give or take . The long screws are sturdy and the coat hanger might snag something . God knows it catches enough on dry land just trying to work with it in my shop. Will give it a good going over and hopefully recoup both poles. 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲

Late post, but last week I got my PB striper. This beast put up a good fight. Got him on freshly caught grass shrimp(in a minnow trap) and anchovy combo. It actually put up a good fight too. 28 inches and pretty heavy, didn’t get an exact weight.

Very nice striper Lando. I’m sure he put up a good fight and will be some good eating too. Thanks for sharing.

Went carping in 80 degree Carnegie Lake this evening on a hot, humid day with a light south wind in the rain. The lake, canal and river were all flooded. Fish were jumping. Threw out a can of corn for chum, then caught and released 3 brown bullheads, a yellow bullhead, a white catfish, a bluegill and a musk turtle 🐢 with Bowl and Basket whole kernel corn 🌽 on 12 lb test line. A young catbird was looking for a handout. Landed 64 turtles 🐢 this year.

You are the MAN bands. I always enjoy your reports and I’m impressed with your dedication to your vocation. And all those turtles! I have caught only 2 turtles in my life, one snapping turtle when I was 16 years old and a sea turtle 45 years later. Keep reporting!

Caught some nice rainbows this morning and planning in filleting one for dinner tonight. I’m going to Dunsmuir to camp for some peace n quiet and of course fishing. I usually hit Hat Creek first since I can’t check into campground till 2:00. I’m overdue for the Upper Sac since I had to wait for the river to calm down from winter rains n snow melt. Can’t wait for daylight to hit the river.
The biggest one weighed 3.5 lbs n stretched to 21.5”

Beautiful fishes PNW. Nice size and great color on them. They are so much fun to catch. You’ll be eating good too. Thank you for sharing with us.

Isn't it unusual for that many bucks to be together?

This time of years bucks hang out together. I’ve seen as many as 30 in a group. They will bust up in the fall nearer the rut. And those are bird houses on the posts.
